Are you using a third party screen protector?
I faced this with a poor screen protector glass on my OnePlus 9 Pro.
I removed it, applied another brand and then the issue was gone.

Hey! This is normal, the edges of the screen have been intentionally de-sensitized in order to prevent accidental gesture triggers on all edges. It sometimes takes multiple attempts to touch some buttons that are placed at extreme edges of screen.

If you absolutely cannot touch the mic icon even after multiple touches only then it could be a hardware defect, otherwise it is normal and sadly you can do nothing to fix it.

What a coincidence. I've been trying to send voice note using whatsapp on my OnePlus 7 Pro and realised that I to am facing this issue. @Praty_28 is absolutely right (i believe) about the edge sensor.
Work around:? I press on the mic button and slide it a little towards left and it works almost 99 percent of the time.(it may feel while you press on the mic button that it didn't get activated, but when you slide towards left a bit, you'll see that it does).
    Hope it helps you too.
Check this screenshot of the above trick I use. said:

The problem is not with OnePlus devices. I think it is the way samsung manufactures their displays nowadays (OnePlus uses Samsung displays).

I recently used a mid range Samsung device, it was the Samsung M31 and it showed this exact same behavior. I also tested this on my sister's Iqoo Z3. It is a recently released device and features a LCD display but it does not have any touch issues.

I can't say for sure whether its only with samsung displays, but so far from the devices i've tested it's pointing towards newer Amoled displays.

They won't do anything because they can't, this is unfortunately considered normal. All displays are built like this in order to prevent accidental gesture triggers on edges. Even if they replace the display the new one will still have this problem, my 8T does this too.

The thing is they don't manufacture displays. The displays are made by Samsung

What he has been trying to convey all this while is, that its not a 'problem' but just an 'inconvenience' they 'chose', adjusting those sensors on the edges, to protect users from accidental touches. They 'chose' to set it. Didn't find it convenient to let the users 'choose' (or not choose).

    It's not a problem, it's a feature. 😏

Seriously, I have it on my pixel too.....and others have mentioned it on the XDA forums and such.

We can only guess why it's been done, perhaps to decenitise the Backpage option on Android 11.

I know when I use Snapseed I find the Backpage function very annoying when I am applying double exposures near the edge of the screen.

Anyway, whatever the reason, it's not going to go away.....we have to learn to live with it. 😐
