With Covid19/Coronavirus affecting people on a global scale, and peoples jobs, livelihoods and as a result spending power being affected it would make sense for One plus to keep a firm lid on the prices.
However i get the feeling that we will see headlines along the lines of "Oneplus releases its most expensive phone to date"

    same here

if the base 8 pro is above $800 then one plus will loose most of its customers

it should be priced between $750-850

Keep in mind that the 4a for around 400$ will probably have a much better camera. I remeber seeing the one plus 7t mclaren edition and thinking to myself that the price was way to high for a oneplus phone, i could buy it because i set some money aside for some years for a new phone, but would it realy be a smart decision? Oneplus was always a very smart company to me, because they focused on the essentails and made the endproduct last for years. That completly changes with a 900+ pricetag. The 7 pro was for 760 almost a no brainer but the 8 pro will in no way be 140$ better, the one plus 7 pro will probably be even cheaper for around 500-600$ after the 8 pro launch.

Oneplus is still a niche brand, i was attracted to it (as oneplus 3T) as a replacement for my LG nexus 5 ( itself a niche product) as it offered a relatively clean version of Android and offered good value for money.
I updated the 3T for a 5T, and then the 5T for a 6T keeping to a 12 month cycle At the moment i am still with the 6T as the 7T series didnt interest me on a price/value level.
My 6T is still going strong.

I was thinking of getting a OP8, but the with way things are at the moment it doesn't look like it would be a wise decision to spend a significant amount of money on a new device, and as one plus prices creep upwards towards what the likes of Apple/Samsung etc charge oneplus devices become far less of an attractive option.

Then we have the case for and against 5G, do i need 5g? its definitely the future of mobile communications but at the moment 4G speeds suit my needs.
5G is still new and in its infancy, coverage while improving isn't quite there yet and reports of current 5G devices show that when in 5G mode they take a hit on battery life ( just as with the early 4G devices)

I have almost always used android based devices out of choice, and apple devices out of necessity, however with the rumoured prices for Oneplus, suddenly apples products start to become attractive - and that is something i thought i would never say - for £729 i could have the iphone11

Smartphone sales have also slumped, according to this BBC article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-51981841
So as far as any phone manufacturer is concerned, now is not a good time to launch a new device, let alone a plucky little brand such as Oneplus that appears to be desperate to price itself out of the market.

When times are tight, or people are uncertain they will turn to the trusted safe brands and with smartphones you are looking at apple or samsung, i i keep my 6T for another 6 months then it will give me time to assess my options
Samsung? Google pixel (i previously had devices on the Nexus brand) or even take the plunge with Apple?

My Oneplus 6T is my third continuos one plus device, the brands slogan is "Never Settle" if the OP8 price continues the upwards drift then maybe I've been settled too long

Hi am a oneplus user for the past 3 years and my first smartphone was OnePlus 3T. I lost my phone last month and am waiting for OnePlus 8 series. The company in 2013 promised to bring quality premium phones for a cheaper price compared to other smartphones. Till now you succeeded in keeping your promise, but as i heard rumors about the price of OnePlus 8 i think you are not keeping the promise that you have given us in the earlier stages.
Earlier when Apple and Samsung overpriced there products to the rates of human body organs you were the only brand sensible enough to give flagship killers to the market at a sensible rates. As the past two years OnePlus also started to increase the price by 20% for each new product you launch. In my perspective if you are gonna price the OnePlus 8 series more than the price mark(50,000 INR) of the existing phones of yours then OnePlus will loose a lot of customers.A major portion of the OnePlus users are students, we cant manage to make 65000 for a smartphone and this shall be burden for the students
Bringing three types of OnePlus brings to a notion that OnePlus, you are diverting from the very principle you follow 'Never Settle', earlier it meant that customers never settle for a lower quality device, and bringing 3 phones in different price range will only damage the goodwill of OnePlus (by the leaks and various comments on the leak it is very clear that OnePlus will loose market in India). The other brands who brought in changes and sold two different quality products in other industry like Lakme faced downfall in India.
In the current scenario bringing an overpriced OnePlus will not only impact the sale but also the goodwill of OnePlus. Please if you are gonna sell the phone for more than 50,000 INR then OnePlus 7T will be the last OnePlus series phone which actually upholded your principle 'Never Settle'.
I think OnePlus will look into this and bring in neccessary changes if neccessary for the issue. We believe in you and my belief in you help me march through this lockdown without a phone. So i expect OnePlus not to break the trust that you have built.

See it this way, if the maxed out 8pro cost $999... And it's performance is like the s20 ultra, then the OnePlus phone is almost $400 cheaper :p

for the rumoured price levels of one plus 8 devices you may as well look at the mainstream non niche devices from the likes of Samsung and apple

I agree the OnePlus 8 Pro will be as good as the recently released flagship Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. And also the recently released flagship Huawei P40 Pro, including in the camera departments. 📷

I'll definitely be buying the OnePlus 8 Pro, but I feel for the loyal OnePlus fans who can't afford it. Huawei have actually reduced the price of their flagship P40 Pro if bought directly from them. Only £899.99 which is a decent price (no Google apps, services or PlayStore is likely the reason)
