People still buy stuff like Samsung S20 Ultra and recent iPhones. That leaves room for Oneplus phones to climb up too. The buyers may not the same person that prefers other phones and price tags but as long as buyers exists prices can keep on climbing. It will level out at some point or atleast create better options for all wallets.
Other than some premium components added for atleast the Pro version the SoC seems to be one of the major price bumps this time. Some brands even settled with 7xx series to offer better prices.

If you voluntarily sell your 6t a year later for less than 136 it's definitely not OnePlus' fault. Do you have a link? You might want to determine the value again and adjust it (sell elsewhere).
If i would buy your house for $1, it doesnt mean it is worth $1.

For some reason I can’t cast my vote for YES it’s too expensive.

I’ve been looking forward to this phone for a long time. Sadly, i feel like I’m going to be disappointed because of the:
    1. PRICE
    2. Not flat screen
    3. No headphone jack

And the 8 pro would be my only choice because it is (rumored) to be the only one with wireless charging.

I could have lived with 2 and 3, but not at the price!!!

link( based on CEX where its nigh on impossible to trade in a used device at A grade) other trade in places are about the £136-£160 mark

As for the headphone jack on phones, it seems that the standard headphone jack has been consigned to history for most devices

Not sure your average smartphone buyer is purchasing Ultra's etc, some people buy expensive cars it doesn't mean there's a bug market for them. Given the choice I would have thought you're average phone buyer would go for a Samsung Galaxy over a OnePlus but even Samsung are having to discount the S20's by 20% and give generous discounts already. I can't see there's a market for a £1,000 5G OnePlus device, plus what is the usual non Pro OnePlus buyer supposed to do as there no longer seems a device for us at present? The rumoured "Lite" version seems a far inferior device.

    Article published by Forbes here:

that mentions the effect of covid19 peoples reduced spending power, and how other companies are/could be going the other way in releasing lower cost devices , quote from linked article

The prices does ofcource affect who buys what. But still... I think there is enough of users buying Oneplus 8 Pro. In my region Samsung is kind of lame with Exynos 990... Many enthusiasts import SD865 versions and avoid the Exynos version like it was plauge infected.

My tip would be to wait and see how the price develops in the near months. Obviously having a fairly recent device and if not having 5G ready in your region and with the price bumps you have to use common sense. For some the better upgrade would be a 7 series or 7t series on sale. For some, like me, we just want the best for fun and personal interest.
For some 8 series will be great. Depends on 5G access and what you have now and what you need and want. Just wait and see what the prices will be... I guess you don't need to wait that very long for price cuts given the current situation...

Yeah I saw that earlier, actually slightly cheaper for the regular OnePlus 8 than I thought it would be. Fair prices for the OnePlus 8 Pro for me personally. Here's the UK prices for both the regular OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro.

I get the feeling the 8 isn't getting released in the US (like the 7 last year) so I would guess the 8 Pro will launch at $849 for the base model. I'll be keeping my 7 Pro.

If the john lewis prices as correct then they may not be a expensive as first thought.
If you are trying to convert the currency from GB Pounds to whatever, don't forget UK prices always include sales tax at 20% (VAT)
So you will need to knock 20% off, convert the price, and then add whatever your local sales tax is
