Was searching around on a replacement part page just for fun when I stumbled across the price of a OnePlus 3 camera module.
    Check it out:

$9 for a camera module for the OnePlus 3. Now before you post anything about that being a reasonable price: here, for reference, is the cost of a Samsung Galaxy S7 camera module (which is a fantastic camera).
    Screenshot 2017-03-07 at 10.18.17 PM.png
The Samsung Galaxy S7 camera is $20 more and is far better.

Now I get it, the whole philosophy of OnePlus is to sell a smartphone that is half or less the price of a more standard flagship. And don't get me wrong: for the most part the OnePlus 3/3T is a fantastic device and really it's only downsides are it's mediocre camera and atrocious vibration motor.

Overall: The OnePlus 3/3T camera is mediocre because it is so cheap. I was not expecting a camera as good as the S7 but it would be nice if OnePlus would incorporate a better camera and a much better vibration motor

i don't want a s7 camera in my op3, all i want is them to fix the current camera problems and i'm happy (blur, video stabilizations).

    btw what is that website?

Most of the problems that people are facing are because of the cheapish camera and not really software based. There's only so much you can do with software to fix bad hardware.

i'm pretty sure they can still fix the camera more, but they wont, they will abandon op3/3T when op4/5 comes out like they did with op1/2/x

The thing is I don't even understand why the vibration motor is so bad. I took the panel off my 3t as I wanted to see if there was a problem (loose screw or something) and noticed that the motor looks near identical to my old iPhone 4 and HTC one m8 vibration motors which were dead silent compared to the op3t and they might not be like apples new taptic engine but sure enough they're so much better. with the camera its not that bad, it is not the best but with some work it could be better. maybe they will change this with their up coming phones

I actually love the OP3 camera. Take a look at the Black and White photo contest elsewhere on this forum. Those are some pretty amazing pics. Here are some pics I took with the camera you think is so bad.

I'm not sure how we can knock a phone that cost 439 on having a midfield worthy camera. the phone cost 439 because of them using a 9 dollar camera module. I would gladly pay 20 more for said sensor however that's OK. Having an expensive collection of cameras and having another flagship phone iPhone 7+. I can say having the OPO 3T is fine. I have other devices for more serious photos even though I can do wonders in Lightroom with 3T photos. also, software is still key. just look at the pixel and the pictures it takes. I hope one day Google releases that algorithm because that will bring the level of photos way up.

It could be better through updates and believe me its a huge improvement from a Htc one m8 but sadly since I'm on a custom ROM the camera is no longer as nice :(

Remember that the difference in the price of a single component doesn't tell the whole story. The actual price difference in the finished product will be much much much higher. Its not about a $20 difference, bit increasing the price of a major component to more than triple. I bet it would increase the cost of the phone by at least $50 if not more. That brings that $435 price (just over $400) to $485 which people see as a $500 phone rather than a $400 phone. It could end up hurting sales significantly.

If you are building a PC, you dont use the top of the line CPU that was just released unless you have damn good reason. Your cost per performance is astronomical. You put in the CPU that was released last year that performs almost as good at half the price. You find the sweet spot to match performance with price. Thats all OnePlus did and its how you get a great phone at nearly half price.

As for Googles camera processing, I think OnePlus just needs to use/license the Oppo ColorOS camera. I used a port of that camera on my OnePlus One and it took amazing pictures! Night and day compared to stock.

    buy phone use phone

if you are always lusting after stuff that isn't even released yet you will NEVER be happy [e]1f604[/e]. phones are every 6 months and it takes 3 months for one plus supply to start keeping up with demand. new phone in July and you'll be lucky if you can buy one before rumors of the 6 are leaked (due in Nov).

    chase the smartphone dragon!

hm, in oh so many ways wrong.
    1. even apple iPhone 7 is not more than 300 dollar in hardware, but sold over 900 dollar. hmm, why?
    2. cheap does not mean worse than expansive. a lot of stuff sold expensive are far worse from quality than the cheaper ones.
    3. the quality of the camera sensor is not defined by the price. the sensor for Samsung just maybe not has the same availability than others?
    4. the op3t camera hardware is good. if you want a better one, get a DSLR. it is a mobile, not a camera.

I found the camera not so bad.. and I think that cost on ********** sometimes doesn't reflect the real production cost but only a logic like .. you pay more for an s7 you can afford a costly spare.. that's because is not too easy find some replacement.. s7 pixel camera are better sure and if you are involved so much in photography may be an s7 was a better choice and a dsrl added to your OnePlus also.
