Hello, faced a similar issue. If you are trying to add a new fingerprint and failing that's mostly because of the recent software update and not a hardware glitch. I got a lot of solutions asking me to gently place my finger, clean my finger and the screen, remove screen guard and more. None worked!
This is what worked for me, I held the phone in a different direction and agreed the fingerprint. Meaning, if I had to add a left thumb fingerprint I turned the phone upside down and tried adding it. Worked like a charm!
