I have rebooted my phone in the past without any problem. So could you post a link to some of the topics that had this problem?

    Then I have three suggestions:
    1. Submit a bug report via https://forums.oneplus.com/feedback/ And wait for the next update
    2. Remove the screen protector and try again
    3. Visit a service center and let your device getting checked

Just search for "fingerprint" in the forum.
But again, my understanding ist, that there is nothing that could fix the issue.
For me it starts working again after some time without doing anything specific.
Just report a Bug and See if it works again after some time for you as well.
Dont send it to the Service Center... This is most likely a Software bug

Nope... didn't fix the issue. Restoring the phone and data right now.
After that I will give it a few days and see if G_V._M._sKKA is right. Hope he/she/it is.
If that doesn't solve it, I will take the screen protector and see if that is the problem. Just in case.

Yes it seems so. After I removed it I was able to unlock the phone and it also works in all the apps that use it... I will see what what will happen in the next few days.

And I even read the instructions for applying that thing. Can you imagine... An IT nerd, reading instructions. 🙃
Took my time and made sure it was done as good as possible.

Knew it. Get a screenprotector from some known brands like spigen. Low quality ones will always cause some issue.

Well I did bought one that was more expensive. Just to avoid this problem and they even mentioned in the manual that i might have to re-register my fingerprints. And I did my research first.
