    Yeah, you have signature verification turned on somehow, and the zip is not signed.

    Just root without wiping data, make a nandroid backup of everything and go to town! :)

    Apparently you can "fastboot boot" a recovery without unlocking.

    Well, if you fastboot booted it, it should work IMO: adb push a recovery.img to your /sdcard, and then cat /sdcard/recovery.img > /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery in an adb shell and then reboot. I have not tried it though, and I don't see the point. Unlocking does not harm.
