Flashing custom ROM, but firmware requiree?

    Optimus_Robertus, Jun 23, 2018 :
    Hi all,

I would like to flash AOSP Extended v5.6 (18-6-2018 version).
However, in the XDA thread, it says firmware 5.1.2 is required.
What does this mean? Does it mean I have to flash OOS 5.1.2 first, before I flash this ROM?
At the moment, I'm on Open Beta 12 (NoLimits), so can I flash this ROM, without first flashing OOS 5.1.2?

    Thanks in advance!

No, firmware is something else. What device do you have?
    Edit:
Just read, oneplus 5. Will drop link.

    Hi!
Do ROM devs usually distribute firmware files alongside their custom ROM themselves? (I.e. as a separate package, or directly inside the ROM zip...)

If not, is there a (hopefully, easy) way to only flash firmware components from a full OOS zip? Because, yeah, firmware components would be upgraded when a full OOS zip is flashed, but not very efficient if one will replace it by a custom ROM right after... You kindly shared firmware files, but how did you get them?

And, is there a way to find firmware revision when not on OOS anymore?

Just google the firmware you want and an XDA thread will show you a list of firmware

No, most devs don't package them and you can quite easily find the firmware zips off the internet. They can be flashed at any time, even if you're on a custom ROM.

So... I guess someone extracts them from its own OP5, and make it available to others on the Web. Ans not something official from OnePlus.
    Still, good to know! :)

They are official, OnePlus is open source, they release it for this purpose. I think they just don't post it.
