Open up Whatsapp, Snapchat or Facebook. Place your finger on top of the top microphone and record some sound - see for yourself! And now test it on Instagram or default Camera app - you will see what I mean.

I can confirm this happens both on a OnePlus 6 and 6T, and also with wired and bluetooth headphones. Audio that is picked up by the mics is randomly quiet/way too loud. We use Facebook Messenger video chat, Duo, and Instagram to communicate/chat, and the microphone quality is beyond terrible. Audio is way too quiet most of the time, but sometimes way too loud.

If you use the front facing camera in the stock camera app to record video, it does the same thing. Audio is tinny and hollow. I cannot use apps like Shazam to record music, and even Google Assistant has trouble picking me up.

Confirming this is an issue that has existed on my OnePlus 6 since purchasing in June and something which irritates me greatly.
Recording audio in Instagram sounds great since the primary bottom mic is being used as OP had stated, but repeating the same in Snapchat/WhatsApp however yields terrible sounding audio as it uses the top "noise cancelling" microphone just as OP mentioned.

If we could have a fix where the primary bottom microphone is used in all cases, that would be greatly appreciated.

Has this been fixed in 9.0.3? I've switched to my Note 9 because I use my phone to communicate and film a lot, and I can't rely on my OP6 until this is fixed.

My girlfriend uses her 6T to play PUBG with me, and the phone ignores her bluetooth headphones' mic and continues to use the internal noise cancelling microphone of the phone...

It would be great if we could get an actual response from OnePlus...
