Hi guys, am I the only one finding the front camera fixed focus the most anoying design fail?!

If I take a selfie with the arm streched the photo is all blur'ed.
My selfies are only with nice quality if I'm near (like 40-50cm) with almost no background.

    Am I the only one?!

    Best Regards

No, the front camera is god awful. It acts like something you would see on a real budget phone.

    It's a blurry mess!

Cleared everything (system, userdata, cache, etc) through recovery and the issue remains. I was able to take group selfies on my Galaxy S6 (a phone from 2015) and with a 'flagship killer' from 2018 I can't, it's just...stupid.

It's very weird that so few people are complaining about this issue, its really anoying.

    Best Regards

No it doesn't clear anything important of the phone, don't worry.

    1. Power off phone.
    2. Power on phone whilst holding down the volume down button (this takes slightly longer to react than you would expect and after the initial splash screen goes blank for a slightly un-nerving amount of time. But just wait).
    3. Enter the PIN/Password you use to unlock the phone when prompted.
    4. Choose a language.
    5. Choose "Wipe data and cache" (don't worry this is only a path to a submenu, it won't delete your data).
    6. Choose "Wipe cache" (IMPORTANT - MAKE SURE YOU DON'T TAP ERASE EVERYTHING).
    7. It will confirm that you have selected clear cache and ask you to say YES.
    8. When it says success choose "Reboot"

Yeahhhhh about that. I fat fingered the wipe system button and completely wiped my phone. Booted with no OS installed

I already had it fixed when I sent the last comment. Always always always make a Nandroid backup. I booted with twrp.img in fastboot, restored my backup, flashed twrp amd Magisk and I'm back in business. Lost 4 days of activity on my device but sure beats losing everything

Can anyone send a "group" selfie or a panoramic selfie with the arm completely streched?

yup, its a fail. i can't take a clear picture in front camera. its working perfect when there is a lot of brightness. but fails to get a clear image when there's low light.

    Hi guys,

This is an example of what I'm talking about, my S6 vs OP6 front cameras.
    [IMG] [IMG]

I was not using portrait mode on the OP6, however in the background everything is blurred. The same thing happens if I have to take a group selfie and people are a few steps behind me, they are all out of focus.

    Not being able to take a selfie of these (with landscape or group) left me disillusioned considering that this front camera is 16 MP (f / 2.0, 25mm, 1/3 ", 1.0μm) vs. 5 MP (f / 1.9, 22mm, 1 / 4.1 ", 1.34μm) of the S6.

The issue is probably because the front cam has fixed focus in hardware itself.

check out the camera h/w details for supported focus types from DevCheck.

Front can does came up with limitation.

I would ask OP6 bug hunters to check if this can be overcome with some software patch.

    Cheers!

I have lost count of posts with this issue on this forum. I am really perplexed with the response from OnePlus. They seem to have gone deaf. Is it something beyond their control, like perhaps their development teams have been busy tasked to work on oppo phones because they have been releasing a lot of phones.
