I can only a access fastboot mode and with all the steps you have listed there the command prompt says error cannot open
Me stupid I didn't do the files from the zip in there, but I still can't open system.img and my phone still doesn't work
I am really sorry if i am posting some stupid questions, but this is the first time I am attempting at rooting an android device....
so if i understand properly all I need to do is...
0. Installing proper fastboot and adb drivers.
1. Backing up your Apps, App data & Internal Storage.
2. Unlocking the bootloader.
3. Flashing a custom recovery.
4. Making important backups.
5. Flashing a ROM.
6. Flashing a Kernel.
will I have to carry out steps 5 and steps 6 or there is no need for that?
My Cyanogen OS is 12.1-YOG4PAS3JL and my android version is 5.1.1
So does this guide apply to me or should i be doing something else if I want to root my device?
My OPO is 64Gb one.
i've done all the steps which is written above to install YOG4PAS3JL and i am still stucked at home screen .. any suggestion ?
That's cool, thank you.
thank you for this very educational tutorial, I used it and instead of behaving like a jackal , I want to thank you for the effort .
A French using google translate to thank you .
in french: Merci l'ami
What's wrong? Following all the steps...
Just registered a new account to say thank you for this guide. Really detailed and clear. I now have a new ROM, where I'd never done this before. No problems found.
Props to you.
okay so all I want to do is flash the updated ROM to my OPX because my WiFi won't turn on, but according to "DaxNagtegaal"'s signature I need to backup my EFS first or I risk corrupting this unique partition and bricking my phone forever, however it looks like the only way to do this is to gain root, which in itself poses the risk of corrupting your EFS partition.
Is this right? So the only way to get even remotely functioning firmware on your phone is to potentially risk voiding your warranty and bricking your phone in doing all this?
Recommending Syncdroid for a backup is a bit suspect.
First off, it is mainly an iOS app.
Second, to use it for backups requires a $20 US upgrade.
Third, it is pretty much only useful if you have a Windows PC for backups.
I am not going to get into which I prefer as a backup, but there are plenty that are better, cheaper and more suitable.
Here is one guide, for an example:
How do I know if it is working(1. Recovering from no OS installed and no ROM or Backup present on the phone.)?
How long would it take?
Thanks Alot!!! this was a real life saver!! Thanks Man!!
Thanks. Sometimes I need to go back to Stock, because something is wrong with my device.
Hi! I have followed every step, but when i backup the efs files I can't find them anywhere.
Edit: i managed to create the files by using twrp built-in terminal.
I am a noob in rooting and stuff. It's been more than a year since I started using OPO but recently the performance has taken a hit and it has a lot of bugs so I want to try a new rom that is stable and doesn't have the issues that I am currently facing - mainly network unavailability, ghost touches. I have not rooted the phone as I read somewhere that I will loose all data (i.e even photos and all apps) . So is there a way to root and unlock bootloader without loosing all data?
