    Hi, Everyone

The launch of the OnePlus 6 is getting closer! In the meantime, however, we want to take a moment to tell you about something else we’ve been working hard on: protecting our users’ private data.

Millions of you have joined the OnePlus community over the past five years. That means we have a lot of data entrusted to us, and that’s a huge responsibility. It’s clear that many of the laws to protect personal data in the past have not been strong enough. We don’t want to make the same mistakes.

Sending marketing emails to customers without their permission is an abuse of a customer’s personal data. We want to be certain we don't send you any such communication unless we have your express permission to do so. In the past you have registered a OnePlus account or subscribed to our newsletter and received our emails, but we now need you to clarify with us whether you wish this to continue.

It is entirely up to you whether you choose to subscribe or unsubscribe. Even if you choose to stay subscribed for now, you can still unsubscribe at any time in the future. Between May 3 and May 4, you will receive an email from boom@oneplus.com with the subject "GDPR, OnePlus And You.” Please check the email when it arrives. In seven days we will remove from our subscribers list everyone who opted out. We have exciting announcements and promotions coming your way, and hope you stay subscribed!

This is a small step on our way to doing more to protect customer data. We have many more actions and initiatives planned for the future to strengthen our pledge even further.

    Seems fair enough to me.
Thanks for the update and good to know you are ensuring you have express permission from users.

Is the data sent from the phone, even the data when opted out, part of the changes planned?

Will OnePlus ever provide the user to an option where 0 data is collected from our devices? @Kale W. ?

Privacy should always be a priority, so glad to see you are working hard for it. ;)

I must say that at least one good thing has come out of all that Facebook vs Cambridge analytica scandal, people now have starting to pay more attention to their own privacy and they've realized that they should be more careful with what they share and with who.

This should have been acted upon even before the NEW EU LAW comes into effect! If I unsubscribe from the OnePlus uk mailing list, I should NOT be getting SPAM from Oneplus India

Did you guys delete the data you collected(stole) from me and many other Oneplus phonesusers after "processing" the collected data ??
Or did some hack into that server stole it already?

@youbi The GDPR was approved and adopted by the EU Parliament in April 2016.

After a two-year transition period it will be in force 25 May 2018 for all EU citizens.

«The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (...) was designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens data privacy and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy. »

There should be a post or a disclaimer about people putting their WhatsApp numbrrs, email addresses in comments.

This thing rises when some contest comes up on the community.

    Just a suggestion! Thanks!
