Could not agree more! Why smash something you pay lots of money for, even if it was in the past.

That's fair enough, but what they've already announced is just plain wrong, joke or not.

There are people already threatening to smash their phones.

Agree with topic starter, don't smash them. Give me one. :D

Seriously, they must have something else in mind, they can't be serious.

I'll be keeping my G2 as a backup, I love this phone. When the time comes it will go to a charity; as there are great causes and people in need.

Couldn't agree more... I already voiced my thoughts in the original thread:

"Honestly @Emmanuel... This cannot be good for the environment. Consumer electronics are a major source of pollution in landfills with hazardous chemicals that can permeate the soil and even contaminate ground water supplies.

Whilst there are many recycling plants, this competion is global and not all countries have recycling facilities to deal with discarded consumer electronics. Thus, these damaged and breached cellular phones may very well end up in landfills.

An alternative to recycling would be selling the phones or donating them to charities. However, this would not be possible if you desire perfectly good phones to be destroyed.

If a company with so much hype behind it was to encourage users across the globe to smash their cellular phones, there is a fair chance that thousands of phones worldwide would be destroyed and dumped without proper safety precautions which could only have negative environmental consequences, no matter how small they may be. I do not think this is a responsible course of action.

I really hope they have something totally different planned. We'll be more than happy to get all those smartphones here in Ghana.
