While I am very satisfied with my new 7 pro, I am equally as disappointed with the missing notifications from gmail. I don't know if this is a Oneplus/OxygenOS/android 9 thing, or a Gmail thing. Apparently, Oneplus made it impossible to control battery optimisation on system apps, which gmail seems to be. My old Samsung S5 lit up like a christmas tree, the second I got an email. Notifications are some of the most important features, especially from email apps. This seems to affect a lot of people. So what's the deal Oneplus, are you seriously going to let this stay "as is"?

Just saw in the bottom of this page, I can choose to watch this thread, and receive email notifications... Irony in action :-D

There is a trick. Add a Exchange mail account. Set the sync frequency to Automatic (push) and and poof. The app is no longer in battery optimization mode.

I too have the same issue..
I've tried locking the app, the Nova Settings, etc.
    Nothing has worked.

Ok, so Oneplus deliberately kill background and system apps, so that they are not able to provide notifications? Why? What could possibly be a good reason for this? Why not leave it up to the actual owner of the phone, who shelled out a lot of money for it, to decide what should be optimized or not? Being notified is a cornerstone in all communication, and it makes absolutely no sense that your email app cannot notify you when you receive a new message. It is exactly the same as if your phone doesn't react if you get a call. What's the point in having a phone without notifications? If this is a battery consumption issue, how about slapping in a bigger battery instead? Hey Oneplus, this is un-acceptable, and I am starting to regret wasting money on your faulty product!

Tried installing Outlook, because some say that notifications work here. But they don't. With Outlook, I am able to turn off battery optimization, but it still doesn't work. The funny thing is that, every once in a rare while, a gmail notification pops up and turns on the screen, just like it should. How can it work sometimes, but not always? How can we EVER make Oneplus do something about this? This MUST be an Oxygen OS issue, and as I can see, it has been an issue since 3/3T. Instead, they waste time and energy by creating dark themes and other un-important stuff. A phone without notifications is nothing more than dead weight. Totally useless!! I am definitely never buying a Oneplus device ever again!!
