Google Android vs Apple ios

iOS is twice as memory-efficient as Android.

I wonder if Google can do something about Android and make it as efficient as ios, then Android OEMs could offer phones with similar specs compared to iPhone. In that case dual or quad core processor with 1/2 GB RAM would suffice and thus prices of Android phones could be much lower.

Android may be open and not restrictive like ios, however it is laggy, keeps on running stuff in background and eats data as crazy, not secure more prone to spam / virus etc. Google at the launch of Kitkat claimed that OS has been optimized and would run smoothly even on phones with 512mb RAM, yet I dont think its true.

    What do you guys think?

    Its not possible.
Android runs on Java which can be hardly optimised whereas iOS runs on language C which is highly optimisable.

Its been known that iOS is more efficient. Google is known for making inefficient apps (google chrome). But they also make open source things which is great and customizable things which everyone likes

How many different devices run on iOS vs android? Its easy to optimize 3 devices vs 1000 devices for an os

Does that mean Android was a hurried OS without much thought given to it or simply put - Google stole Apple's idea and came up with Android to compete with ios. Also, does that make ios superior.

But can android run well on 512mb RAM. iphone 4s with 512mb RAM runs as smooth as any android phone with 2/3gb RAM. What about Google claims while releasing kitkat that it would run very smoothly on phone with even 512mb RAM

Before speaking you should learn few more stuffs because you're totally wrong.

Unused RAM is WASTED ram. Your phone will not perform faster because it has more ram free.

The opposite is true. Your phone will be slower if it is not able to free up ram when it needs it.

RAM is extremely fast, the more stuffs is cached, the faster the phone will be

no its just that running on java allows many devices to run android with different specs

Nah the article is wrong and you should not trust it.

Android is very well optimised (see my previous comment as well). The low-level part such as the kernel is coded in C (and not Java).

Then why it lags badly on 512mb phones whereas iOS runs so smooth on the same.

even though apple uses just 1 gb of ram and low number of cores in processor, its price is very very high. even if android uses more ram and processing power, the prices are significantly lower.
Android has a lot of features. Its the best ecosystem ever.
For a normal user, price is the most considerable point. So apple is the loser here.

Dude you are taking this discussion to another direction...The point is not about cost at all..Its about the performance of OS and related hardware specs which these two use.

I flashed a custom kitkat 4.4 rom on my old HTC Desire HD. Unofficial port aswell, so perhaps if it was official it could be even smoother. Ran pretty well, but I'm pretty sure it was sometimes laggy (not always though). I believe it has 512mb ram, but I just know the specs were really bad lol.

The 3rd comment (by Tandu) explains your question the best.
