Google apps dark with colorful theme Apr 4, 2021 via OnePlus 6

    Hi,

    anybody knows how to make Google apps use dark mode without having to set the system to dark mode?
    I don't like the dark mode for system but for the apps.
    Unfortunately Google always follows system settings.. Can I mock system settings for apps with root somehow?
    Or maybe I can have white notifications on dark mode. Is there any way with root?

    Most Google apps are enabled as dark mode on the server side. Google will set their apps depending on your theme. So currently there will be no way to set those apps individually.

    Yes.
    But I used to have the option to toggle regardless of the theme.
    Now that's gone.

    I have my phone set to a dark theme, however Gmail under its Settings, Google Messages Beta under the 3 dot menu, and YouTube again under settings has the option you see below on my 6T

    Google Phone, Google Maps, Google Files Translate, and Google Photos has no options in setting or elsewhere that I can find. So these must be server side settings, set to the theme you use.

    For any other Google apps, check the Settings or 3 bar menu to see is the theme options there.

    But some are controlled by Google server side switches, which can also be down to the app version as well.

    The most important app would be Google search.
    It used to have a toggle dark/bright/system.
    Now it's just system. :(
