    Today Google Files installed itself...
    is that a new thing?
Did it just updated itself and placed an icon in another place?
    I can't even uninstall it...
    is this normal?

This app has been on your phone since you bought it, actually. Remember the "Downloads" app? Same exact app just renamed. All this app does is help you access your Drive files.

ok thank you for your help. i guess i was surprised that an app installed itself all of a sudden. naturally, i thought it was malware.

    ** updates...

somehow i notice it automatically creates a shortcut on my homepage, so i removed it a couple of days ago. i power up the phone today, and it puts another shortcut on the homepage.

while in home settings -> 'add icon to home screen = on', for new apps, Files is not a new app. so there is no reason whatever why the shortcut is being added to home screen three times so far. as a work around i set 'add icon to home screen = off' for now.

    how it this possible??

sure. hiding the app is a simple solution, still it's a bug.
