I'm curious to know if anyone here that has this popup/issue is using stock Android kernel that came with the phone? Being a user of a custom kernel, that comes to mind. Perhaps this is related to a change of kernel? just thinking out loud so to speak.

after i know that, i can at least determine the "risk factor" involved. at the moment I'm off the opinion this is just a false flag by new Google/Android security rules. but if it's custom kernel related, that could present a bigger risk. (doesn't mean it makes it harmful, just means the risk is there)

No warning here with 4.1.6 after rescan. As others observed a system app that quite likely should not be notified by a PlayStore or vice versa if there is a security problem maybe rather fixed than disabled. A calrifcation by OP would be appreciated. on the other hand there is an option in playprotect to notify also Google in such cases.

Useful info, thanks everyone. But being completely non-teccy I don't understand most of what's written. Is the general consensus to just ignore the message, or should I click on uninstall harmful app? I haven't installed anything new recently, so don't know which app the message is referring to... Any advice grateful received please! Thanks again

Settings -> Google -> security -> Google Play Protect

I just checked mine. OP3T with latest Beta13, scanned 1h ago - no warning. I also made sure that the GPIO Switch app is on the list of system apps...
Either Google learned that it was a false positive and stopped reporting it as a harmful app or so many people got infected with some malware. I guess the first option.

I also don't have it in the Play Store. Just in the Settings. If You can't find it there then maybe the option to show it was not activated yet by Google for your account. AFAIK they were rolling it out gradually. Anyway the protection should be there, it's just not shown in the menus.

I didn't get that notification so I guess my phone is going to get really hot, the batteries are going to swell up and the phone is going to explode when I have it by my ear and take half of my head off.
    Can you spell melodramatic?

So if this was false positive and I have disabled GPIo switch by play protect, does anybody knows how to re-enable it?
