Did you flash Magisk using TWRP? But you did not install TWRP?
I'm asking because I wanna root with Magisk but I don't want to install TWRP.

Magisk is constantly being updated to ensure use of the various apps that may be affected by rooting a phone. Shouldn't be an issue once you get used to working with Magisk if you are rooted.

To find out more about Magisk, I would suggest reading the info on it at XDA. It would explain a lot more than I can here.

You also have modules for Magisk as well. Again you would get more info on them on XDA. The Sticky threads at the first link below will give you a lot of information.

Yes, a clean install is always preferred. Dirty flash may cause issues, but it is up to you.

    Hi. Thanks for this guide.
I'm using exclusively Mac and Linux and they can work perfectly fine for this process, as adb and fastboot are easier to install than in Wind*ws (it spared me the hassle of finding and installing the drivers).
So I think it's not accurate to say one needs exclusively Wind*ws PC for this process. Instead, it would be fairer to say "any machine with working adb and fastboot".

Sorry, just trying to help making the post better.
    Thank you.

If you root the phone but stay with OOS, OTA will no longer work. You will then to download a full install file of the version you are updating to. You may want to check the OnePlus 6 section of XDA to learn more about how to use, update, and what you can do with a rooted phone.

I have accidently deleted the whatsapp chat backup internal storage files in my Oneplus 6 device - Oxygen 10.3.11 (google back-up not in sync unfortunately). To recover, few weblinks / apps show that rooting is the only option to recover the files. Hence, have the following queries:

    1. Is there any way to recover the whatsapp chat backup file?
    2. Will rooting / Unlock Bootloader erase all the data (including internal storage) of the mobile?

    Thanks in advance.

If you have deleted the chat backup file from the phone. Then that will be gone. In some instances if you have set it up, the chats are backed up to the Google Drive.
Here are the instructions on how to get those back from the Google drive.

Yes, unlocking bootloader involves wiping the phone. And you need to unlock the bootloader to root it.

If your phone is not recognised by "fastboot devices", check your laptop/PC for an optional update for something like android bootloader

It's not a OnePlus driver, or part of the platform tools, but an optional update under Windows Update. On your PC/Laptop go to Settings > Windows Update > View Optional Updates > Android Bootloader Device and install it and see if that works.

I've had to install it myself to get fastboot to work when ADB was already working.
