I was just interested to see how good the Miracasting was on my OPO .. (compared with my old Nexus4) as I hadn't tried it up til today.

I was just trying to add info for people who wanted to know .. sorry if you thought I was 'off topic' .. :(

My bad. I didn't mean that.
I was specifying that it is not the same thing as cable. Somebody doesn't know what chromecast and miracast are.

Perhaps this is covered deeper in the thread as I stopped reading lol, but I just tested and it does support MHL Storage, but I can not find my MHL-HDMI cord to test it. It is couple months after your post, perhaps it is updated, or perhaps because I am on SLIM and its a software based support and just not on the Official (perhaps paying licensing to have genuine MHL?)

    MHL is just for audio/video

What you tested is USB OTG

Since several people here already use Miracast, perhaps somebody can answer my questions. The use case is to have a movie file on the mobile device, MP4 or MKV or some such, and wanting to play it on a TV set or through an AV receiver in a home cinema.

    1. Does Miracast stream the mobile device screen or does it stream the file data? In other words, if the file has a resolution that is different from the mobile device screen, is the Miracast stream rescaled to the mobile device screen resolution or does it maintain the original file resolution?

    2. Assuming the file has DTS sound or some other surround sound stream (e.g. playable with BS Player), what kind of sound is streamed through Miracast? I see three possibilities: (a) downscaled to mono or stereo, (b) rescaled to multi-channel PCM, (c) the original DTS or other surround sound stream passed through directly from the file.

Bonus question: Has anybody seen any Android video player that offers the user a choice that influences the above outcomes?

To my knowledge Chromecast does either not provide HDMI output from a mobile device data source like a video file or the output is severely limited in terms of video and sound formats.

I used Miracast on my Bravia smart TV. Used to work well till the 38R update. But after that, somehow it just doesn't work!

    Any clue?
