depends what  a few brain cells, V. Everything? I

I got zapped pretty hard by voltage not too long ago. We were working on an ionic wind generator (pretty much recreating the MIT experiment), using 40kV as the HV power supply. Once that thing is on, the resting surface is covered in static charge everywhere and you have to discharge it. Well co-worker didnt, and i thought he did, so i touched the testing track. Oh man did it hurt.

The correct answer is that you need both and the charge they carry ;) , getting zapped by 40kV isn't fun though I know that feels.

As for the ionic wind generator, fun stuff even some cube sats use some miniature ion drives. Different but similar principle if I'm not mistaken.

I doubt it was the full 40kV because i just got zapped by the static part that was left over. But feeling that, i would not want to try 40kV on myself :D

yeah, its definitely interesting stuff. i will send you a vid in telegram.

My question now is, was the resting surface discharged after you got zapped?

Well, probably still had some residual charge left.

Speaking about charge, our local albert hein has a terrible static discharge problem... they should really invest in humidifiers.

If I'm the path to ground from their shelves... I'll still get zapped. It's mostly their plastic lining on the metal shelves that cause the discharge I think, since they're on rubber feet.

Delhaise, Carrefour, Lidl, Aldi? You should have enough choice.

Maybe not the Delhaise as it's Albert Heijn also, just to stay on the safe side. :D
