The latest Google update is buggy and is hogging all the battery. Revert to an older version by uninstalling the update and wait for google developers to fix the bug in next update. I was facing the same issue and uninstalling the update resolved it.

There's no risk. Just go to Settings > Apps > Application List > Google > then click on the three dots on top right and click on uninstall updates.

It won't affect your phone or data in any way except for giving you a better battery life and try not to update the app untill the issue is fixed by google developers.

Looks like you uninstalled the update. Your device should now give a better battery backup.

didn't see 3dots on top right, I noticed in play store that I was signed in for beta program from by another account, so uninstalled it. hope now battery won't drain.
