I just started using Plex - a friend has a media server set up. IT IS LEGIT. If you haven't checked it out, check out Plex. Cheap too.

I don't watch TV. I just watch my favorite shows like The Big Bang Theory online when they come out.

In the past I used to have cable, then I made my own Media Center PC and experimented with tv tuner cards and a variety of software. Killed the cable and used a Mac Mini with XBMC and PLEX.

Since then switched to a Synology server, ripped the rest of my content into digital form and have used Plex, Netflix, Hulu through a Roku or Chromecast.

I am very interested in the upcoming Android TV though, I feel like I would get back into playing some classic games using some of the emulators.

a friend of mine told me about XBMC. once we saw it, i knew me and my wife had to get it. so we got it. cancelled cable. it's been great. not everything is at HD quality (some at DVD quality) but it's good enough for us. it also saves us a few bucks every month (which adds up over the year!). it's been good. i'd recommend it to anyone else looking for alternative ways of watching movies, or tv at home instead of paying for expensive cable.

When looking into 'interesting' ways to watch the new football season, I have literally just discovered Xbmc and the add-ons - obviously was aware of the former before, but not the later. Good god!

I don't think it'd replace my conventional TV set up (ie: PVR, aerial in the loft, etc), mainly as I'm not sure Xbmc/add-ons are particularly wife-friendly but jeez, the opportunities are endless!

I had time warner cable until their stupid plan to require digital adapters to continue watching cable rolled out today. Guess my tv will now collect dust. Now I have to stream tv shows online.

I cancelled cable, but still have bunny ears to watch OTA broadcasts. I use Simple.tv to be able to record the OTA broadcasts, and I have a Simple.tv plex channel to watch it on virtually any device.

I use Chromecast on my bedroom TV, and I have an HTPC on my living room. This allows us to watch anything on Plex along with Netflix and Hulu Plus.

XBMC has everything and it's free. I've watched streams from all over the world.
