I am asking because I'm pretty disappointed about this myself.
I just compared it in direct sunlight against iPhone 6s, and to my surprise iPhone 6s display was much more clearly visible. If iPhone 6s would get a rating of 8/10 from me, then OnePlus 3T was about 5/10.

Specs wise iPhone 6s has brighter display than OnePlus 3T (536 vs 447 white cd/m2), but on GSMarena there is this "Sunlight contrast ratio" chart, which OnePlus 3T is quite high up top. And this makes me wonder if there is something wrong with my device?

Also the high amount of smudging of the display coating really worsens this by a lot. Is OnePlus cheating again?

Yes OnePlus is cheating again. They planted all those smudges on your screen because they want the brightness to seem bad

    Oh no... Haha.
I wish I could have stayed with sRGB, but I switched back to normal because of this, normal mode gives better contrast for better visibility.

no they aren't cheating for a 1080p the screen is very bright... iPhone could have better anti glare properties. but the screen is brighter on the 3t.

I don't care about those results but my personal opinion, I don't have any problems in viewing my 3t in broad sunlight with auto brightness

Can you check what display model you have, using app like Aida64? I have samsung s6a3fa3
Also I have quite a lot of scratching and smudging, never had this much with any phone this fast. I feel like my 3T's cover glass is inferior.

It's the newer panel, you have, only difference, as far as I know, is that it supports wider color gamut mode : DCI-P3. But since it does maybe there are some other improvements. Maybe the cover glass is different, I don't know, but what I do know is that I personally have the visibility level too low in direct daylight.

I use polarized sunglasses in sun light... And OP3 default screen protractor (the one pre applied) looks Darker in sunlight and side edges (out of pre applied Screen protact) looks good.

I don't use a screen protector. Of course a screen protector would make the screen darker. Exception might be that a screen protector could reduce reflections, thus making the display better visible.
