Is this realistic? I'm not interrested in waiting for Android Silver or anything, but perhaps after announcing a potential successor the Nexus 5 would drop in price? Is this possible or just an asinine concept?

The chance is exactly 0. It didn't happen in the past, it won't happen now.
The Nexus 5 might drop in price a month or so before the new one is released, just as it happened with the Nexus 4.

Thanks that's a pretty clear answer ;) I figured it'd be a long shot, but I'd feel pretty ****** if I'd ordered one today and in then in 2 weeks they'd drop the price.

The only reason for the price drop was to sell all remaining inventory so they can go all out on the 5. I do not think google will drop prices till August or September.

Don't worry, not gonna happen. But still I'd wait 2 - 3 months for any more info about Nexus 6 or silver.

The price drop will occur when they are ready to deplete the stock of the Nexus 5... about a month or two before the successor - if there is one.
