How many years of support and updates?

I'm interested in purchasing OnePlus 5T when it comes out. I want to use this device for at least the next 2-3 years. Other smartphone makers cut you off after one year in an attempt to "force" you to upgrade.

If I buy the OnePlus 5T, how many years of updates will the device receive?

Nobody knows and OnePlus has refused to give any timeliness or any statements in the recent past given their shit history of keeping promises like Nougat on the OP2. They did say the OP3 will not get anything after Oreo.

If you can afford it , you're better off with a Pixel.

You can usually expect an year of official support. Irrespective of the official support, you always have the flexibility of Custom ROMs with which you can easily survive your expected period

You will probably get around a year or so of updates, after that, maybe about another year of security updates and bug fixes. The OnePlus 2 may not have gotten the Nougat update, but, it does still get security updates and bug fixes. (Not very often though.) Still, OnePlus makes great devices, and custom ROMs are a nice addition as there are plenty.

So do you want to say that every smartphone for 300-400€ is recieving 2 Major Updates? Because even Samsung is delivering 2 M.U to their mid/high-tier smartphones

If you can afford $600 for 5T, you can afford $650 for Pixel 2. One will have support for 10 months, other one will have support well into 2020.

I bought OnePlus 3T in April of this year and support will end this month or the next when Oreo comes to it. The phone was released in November 2016 and last major update will be this month so at best, you'll get 1 year. They release phones in June and November so they can say that they do 2 major OS updates but that's a gimmick because they release phones with previous year's OS. I am amazed at what they're able to get away with without backlash from the community.

You are right of course, but the date of release isn't that important i guess. They said that OREO is going to be the last Major Update, which technically doesn't mean that there isn't going to be a Update to 8.1 as example. Even OP2 recieved a update some weeks ago, even if it's only the security patch. 2 Major Updates is the standard for Brands like Samsung, Huawei(not all phones) - so OP is doing pretty good right now

They also never said that 3T would get 8.1.
The OPX which was released after op2 was abandoned no update for the X for more than a year.
Also the update to the OP2 was probably for fixing the unauthorized data gathered by OnePlus.
They did good for the OP3, OPX forgotten, OP2 no Nougat which they promised but went back.
For the 3T we have to wait how it may turn out
