Even if they did state a time frame take it with a grain of salt as Carl likes to hide behind the statement that he did not promise anything.

They don't struggle because of Google; they struggle because both OEMs and carriers are greedy assholes who bastardize stock Android to oblivion and nonrecognition so they can push their garbage shizwizz skins and ton of bloatware that they took money for in return for shoving it down end user's throat and not even being able to de-install it. THAT's why they're "struggling". If Google really cared, they would ban all alteration to Android and either OEMs use stock version or they don't get it. This is where Apple kills Android; they have ONE version of OS for every single iPhone across every carrier in the world. Done. End of story.

Per your count above, 6-7-8-9-10, and the chart here, I count 5. (Not bad for a 5 year old, 2012 phone.)

Sorry I, erroneously, assumed that by 5 additional it meant 5 in addition to release OS.

OP is notorious for leaving old models behind fairly quick. I would be surprised if they support it for 2 years and very much doubt it would go beyond that.

    This right here.

But I would be remiss if I didn't point out that the Pixel 2 lacks the jelly scrolling feature and it doesn't look like the $200 cheaper phone from its parent company.

I'm wondering if the updates ever came on the 5t.
I'm considering the 6 but only if i think they will update their os a few times.
I talked to them and they wouldn't make any guarantees. The Samsung and pixel are more $$$ but it seems like the both update at least 2 android versions. The 6 has latest hardware and optional 8gb ram so with roms (I've heard of them but have no knowledge how to install) could keep it going for several years possibly.

Not only software, but also hardware/spare parts!!!

My OP 3T - which I bought as the latest OP model only 1 year ago in April 2017 - screen got broken last night and contacted the customer support to make a service request to change it.

And they said they don't have the screen and that they stopped producing spare parts for the 3T !!!

Nobody knows and OnePlus has refused to give any timeliness or any statements in the recent past given their shit history of keeping promises like Nougat on the OP2. They did say the OP3 will not get anything after Oreo.

If you can afford it , you're better off with a Pixel.

    when they refused ?
