I changed to the f2fs filesystem after upgrading from stock 3.2.8 to OTA Nougat. It requires you to do a "factory data reset" where you remember to enable the "erase internal storage" setting.

It doesn't require root permission. Do it from phone settings.

Data partition will be F2FS automatically after you factory reset on Nougat (no root requred)
Cache will stay EXT4 (you need root to change it, but t's not recommended)
    System will stay EXT4 regardless

    Hello Guys,
All those who looking for best result from oneplus 3 should go though this post.
It is known that ext4 has faster read speed then f2fs however f2fs has faster write speed then ext4. Considering performance of these two format there is following best combination available
    1. Cache- ext4 -- As ext4 takes considerably less space then f2fs therefore ext4 is best suited.
    2. Data- f2fs-- data is major partition of Oneplus 3. It also requires both read and write. Since F2fs is significantly faster in writing therefore f2fs is best option to go with.
    3. System- ext4-- As system is read only partition therefore ext4 is preferred over f2fs due to higher read speed.

for more performance details refer this XDA post - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697069

P.S.-- OOS 4.0 does not allow you to use system and cache in f2fs format. And i think it is good decision considering above benefits of ext4 format.

Is there any difference between the two of them? I know that F2FS is faster, but does it worth it? any of you guys have noticed the difference?

You have to do a factory reset from recovery. First create backup. Enter recovery mode boot. Go into factory reset option, there you will also find option to change file format into f2fs from ext4 before the reset.
