Oh, when I saw this thread showing up among the recent threads I thought Patrich Hill is back.
    But sadly no.

Wow.... This would be awesome to have TWRP and still get Ota updates... However on xda I saw a few people state you wouldn't get Ota updates....

You can, but you have to go into developer settings and uncheck the update CM recovery option or the update will either fail or twrp will be replaced by stock recovery.

    So if i am correct.
So fastboot trwp will temp unlock bootloader simply to root the phone?
That means my fone will not be reset/whiped true?
Like with other options where you first unlock bootloader etc.
    Or am i wrong?

Had the phone for a week and it's been great but the time has come to root and get VFA apk on here! Rooted in recovery with the fastboot method and only "boot" not "flash" TWRP. Kept stock recovery for now so as to get any OTAs that maybe coming. And although the Audio Fx app was ok it doesn't match the tweak-ability of Viper! Going to install Xposed just for the multi-window and then this phone is a complete beast!

That is correct and exactly what I did here.

I thought that by rooting your device you could then install CM. Since OPO comes preinstalled with CM, why should you have to root it? I saw some of the previous posts about some settings and/or apps that would be newly accessible due to rooting. Why aren't these already accessible on the OPO? Sorry for my confusion, I'm coming over from the dark side (iOS) and I'm only used to jailbreaking.

I performed this but...is there anyway to reverse it to put the OPO back to the way it was originally?

Because rooting introduces you to the new amazing world of android.
In iOS you did JailBreaking, just to install paid apps as free and some other little customization.

But in android you root, coz you want to flash and try different ROMS. Plus there are tons of other benefits too.

I have a problem, i waned to root my OPO and I think Idid everything I was supposed to do.
I did the adb and fastboot stuff (both eventually recognised the device). Then i flashed the twrp recovery and tried to start into recovery but my phone is stuck on the 1+ powered by android screen... I really don't know what to do, i redid every stepp at least 10 times (always returning my phone to stock)... once I had another screen where I had glitchy rainbow colors for a sec before the phone went black .. any help is hugely appreciated

@calogero @dhalmiyou need to use "fastboot oem unlock" in the bootloader before you do that and here is a WARNING: it will wipe your device
