Just purchased the OP8T from T-Mobile and I was wondering is there a way to install the original Oxygen OS so that I can get updates as soon as OP releases them rather than waiting for T-Mobile slow updates.

Do I need to have the device paid off?
Is there an official OP ROM?
Will this mess up any T-Mobile features like wifi calling, etc.?

    Hey there!
no, your device doesn't need to be paid off. you need 2 things first:
    1. you need to get your phone sim unlocked. I have a lead on that. I will disclose more of this when you reply.
    2. you need to get your bootloader unlocked from oneplus. It takes exactly one week from date of submission. You will receive an email from oneplus when you receive your bootloader unlock code. More on that when you reply.

    3. As for converting your phone from t-mobile to international: It's a slightly messy process at first yet doable. more on that when you reply.

    Thanks. =)

Please note I am not responsible for damage or failed relationships stemming from what is done to your phone. Now that formalities are done let's get into the good stuff!

    A. This portion will be sim unlocking (will not work for other devices not of the Tmobile variant.) Sim unlocking is required to unlock your bootloader!!

    1. Record your IMEI which can be found in Settings>About Phone>Status

    2. Contact Tmobile TForce (Tmobiles Social Media support agents) by messaging them through Tmobiles Facebook page.

*This is where it can get tricky as their policy states if your device isn't paid off you cannot sim unlock your device. Most people can achieve unlock by telling them "I'm an active developer and need the phones bootloader unlocked to develop programs on other Android versions." This may not work but try again the next day if it doesn't. Keep trying until it works.

    B. This portion is on bootloader unlocking

    1. Go under Settings>About Phone and tap away on software version until developer options are unlocked.

    2. Enable USB Debugging and OEM Unlocking both of which should be found under developer options.

    3. Install ADB and your oneplus drivers on your pc. If drivers are not installed your computer will not see the phone is connected.

    4. Use the following commands in the order
    adb reboot bootloader
    fastboot oem get_unlock_code

    5. Visit the official oneplus site and input all info it requires https://www.oneplus.com/unlock_token

    6. Wait exactly 7 days for you to be given an unlock code.

If you have anymore questions please let me know! I am new to the oneplus community but was in the Samsung community for 5 years so I'll help where I can!

Still getting a "<waiting for device>" prompt. I tried reinstalling the drivers and have used the Latest-ADB-Installer.bat file but to no avail. I can't get a response to fastboot devices command. But when I'm in fastbootd I am able to get a response to fastboot devices command. Any ideas what to do? FYI - adb devices command returns my device id.

Try updating your USB Drivers. It seems like your fastboot isnt seeing your phone

Just curious, but if I get my 8T unlocked, will I be able to use the 5G portion on AT&T's network as well?
