Maybe the file size is different for other regions? I'm not sure how that works. But I can assure you that SD on my phone looked terrible and I'd go crazy if I didn't send it in. SD and HD is like night and day on my OP5T.

So One Plus is fooling us now? Release an update immediately to fix these issues. Will I not be able watch HD videos on youtube aswell?

Just wanted to add another positive post about a successful repair for the HD issue. Hopefully it will assuage any fears for those who haven't done it yet. Luckily I had a back up phone but I get it if its not doable for you personally.

Went through the process here in Texas and was very painless. Only issue I had was with it getting shipped back where there was a slight delay (due the package bomber guy), but they had my phone all done and shipped out in a single day. Like previous posts, I can see the HD symbol on my netflix and widevine L1 on my software. I can see a slight improvement on sharpness on my screen, but nothing that rocked my world :) Still glad I got it done though.

it's just simple why netflix can't push an update to choose which resolution I want? like YouTube?

I asked last week the technical support if a new phone will come with the upgrade. They answered no, we still have to send it back for the L1 update.
I guess the 5T production is over, replaced by the 6

As I wrote in another post, i also sent mine to the Acer repair center in Texas (i forgot exactly where) and I got it back too, and I also get the HD icon but it's limited to 1280x720 (720p), it wont reach 1080p, you could check with the "test patterns" (search for it on netflix) and you will see that it artificially limits to 720p, i talked to netflix support and they said that it's a thing to be fixed by oneplus, so in the end this PATCH (Widevine one) just pushed us to 720p territory, not 1080p, now some guys in this forum say that there's some kind of database on netflix that whitelist phone models or something, so far i havent gotten a true proof of that, so maybe it's just folklore by now, and not a true thing who knows?

Netflix app can stream up to 4k but it all depends on hardware specifications, whether you watch on a Shield device or not, etc. OnePlus allows for plain HD only because it features Snapdragon 835 which is a trusted chipset by Netflix. Higher resolution would require Netflix to acknowledge the phone as a secure device which is a similar case as with Amazon, which currently doesn't even support HD for OP5T. You can see the list on Netflix's website and to be honest it's not that long.

Shouldn't Oneplus ask Netflix to allow the Full HD playback? I mean, we the users can't do that, I assume that netflix would require to be sent one device to test or something? right?
