    Yeah, good points.
I meant "not simple" in that they have a "known working system", and have had it, for some time now.
Yeah, the certification is free, but there's design costs, testing costs and potential problems resulting, etc. Maybe it does something "weird" to the home screen, after watching HD, a bug they didn't even know they had, or knew about it , but it was low-priority, given the HD viewing limitations. If this bug were "entrenched" or otherwise tied to a lot of components, the design-change/testing cycle gets MUCH larger.

I agree, they could do this, if it were a priority. In fact, they have, the "distribution system" is horrible though, this was a shortcut I feel like they shouldn't have taken, but I'm sure the bean-counters ran the numbers six different ways here.
I suspect they feel like the number of people willing to send their phones in is small, so this limits most other problems, for the 5/5T device life-cycle.

I feel the same about Treble and the 5/5T though, in fact I'm a LOT more passionate about the fact that it won't get this feature, vs. the HD/WideVine certs.
I get that they're concerned about re-partitioning OTA, but there is a small re-purpose-able partition they probably could use, but it's just not a priority (another risk/reward calculation was made, I'm sure).
How many people do you see clamoring for it? Basically zilch, because it's not well known just what it "brings to the table", moving forward...

Because they don't meet Google's requirements to have this rolled out as OTA update.

this to me was the failure of One Plus I love my 5T brilliant phone but the Company appears to forget past models even a only a few months old. one plus has the return program but if your like myself and others who use their phones for work. not to play games so sending your phone to a different country then also wiping it well not feesible O2 shop here in the UK they could not understand why a return program here in the UK with authorized O2 tech centers was never proposed
Great phone but when comes time to upgrade this will be a factor if I decide to stick with one plus hopefully this plugin issue will be resolved

Even though you have L1, play movies and prime video is still in SD only. Not HD.
Only OnePlus 6 can play in HD in play movies as of now. Prime video is in SD in 1+6 also.

What's there here to be sure??? I have 5, you have 5T, my friend has 6. I checked in 5,6. According to your screenshot, your phone can't play HD in play movies.

I'm using 5t and it's running with videwine lvl1 DRM, but the thing is when I play TEST PATTERNS from Netflix it only plays in 720p not 1080p it's only HD not FHD

Yes. I don't know if it's 720/1080. It says HD. I'm fine with that. Earlier in L3, HD icon didn't appear.
Is it not 1080??? FHD means >=1440p I think.
