To avoid confusion I told there like that. For me in India, bollywood movies can be viewed in HD. Hollywood movies are in SD. Apparently HD licensing is only for the respective country movies.

First of all dear, do you have L1? If yes, you can stream HD in Netflix, some movies in Google play movies.

If you can live with another phone for a week, you can send the phone to your nearest authorised service center using OnePlus care app. They'll pick up your phone and deliver it back. It's a simple process.

Does this patch stay if we shift to the beta os from the stable? Or do we need to be on stable to use it ? The guy at the exclusive service centre said it won't work with beta

Some people said that L1 in stable changed to L3 in beta. But when they migrated back to stable, L3 changed back to L1.

I'm a proud OnePlus 5 owner but I'm definitely disappointed with the lack of playing HD content on Netflix. I know this can be enabled by sending your device to OnePlus service center, but I live in Oman where OnePlus don't have an official presence, so sending the device to India is not an option for me to consider.

Today, I came across this article on XDA News which says that the Sony Xperia XZ2 received WideVine L1 update through Android P Beta 3 update. And this proves that the L1 security level can be enabled via OTA.

Here's a link to the article:
    https://www.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-xz2-android-p-beta-3-widevine-l1/

I hope OnePlus brings such an update to users without needing to send the device to any service center.

sony Xperia XZ2 just got widewine L1 support with an software update? what's stopping OnePlus doing the same?

I much rather have via software update than sending mine away

yes. it's absolutely free. just contact with OnePlus through any social media or go to OnePlus support and call/chat with them for instructions. I have send my phone and got back within a week with widevine L1 support.
