Thanks, I'll give it a go when I get the phone.

With top tier specs I'd be astounded if it was a physical limitation... my money would be on them cheaping out on the certification The widevine website says there are no licensing fees (making the lack of support even more baffling) - would be nice to get an official response as to why they only support L3. It is very strange and no major tech sites/youtubers have mentioned it in reviews so it's very much slipping under the radar for whatever reason. Bigger deal than the 'jelly screen' imo but the only discussion on the issue seems to be a couple threads in forums

I mentioned this on another thread, 90% of the YT reviewers are shills, they gloss over the numerous faults on many devices, they are not in the business of telling the truth because they need the next round of freebies from the companies.

    They probably didn't test Netflix.

Also, where's your proof on shilling?

I believe it is more of a licensing (a.k.a. spending more money) - thing...

I guessed that too but looking at widevine's website (https://www.widevine.com/) it pretty clearly says "No License Fees" on their front page, so I don't really know what excuse they have for not implementing it

YT will change to 1080p automatically once you switch the app to full screen. It just takes annoyingly long time to do that. Alternatively you can find modified YT app from XDA that doesn't have the limitations that the original YT app has.

If they use widevine DRM then yes, but I can't test yet without the phone

Same on Oneplus 3,3T and 5, Netflix isn't in HD, these phones doesn't have the certification :(

You need to downloaded Netflix modded apk

I retuned the 5T today, not gonna ***** about it as I got my money back, but to me this is a pretty big deal. In the shop they were pretty gobsmacked about this issue.

L3 is not supported by Netflix, Amazon etc. the only support L1. Also the content provider has to certify the device or they will not recognize the L1 support. unless OnePlus rolls out a L1 update and content providers certify the device you are stuck with sub HD

Yes that's the problem, the question is why it is like that in the first place!

that is a great question. I personally think they rushed out the 5/5T to avoid project treble now that we know they (OnePlus) aren't supporting it currently. Doing that they ether forgot or didn't have time to finish some features. Camera app and L1 certification are the first thing that comes to mind as a rush job.
