[IMPORTANT] OnePlus 5T does not support HD viewing for Netflix, Google Play Movies, etc

To be fair, stuff like this should be done by Netflix, not OnePlus. It should depend on devices using their apps, not the other way around. You can be sure that Samsung never has to certify their phones for Netflix apps.

But if it is required: why don't we all pitch in to get a device submitted? Should not be that hard I'd say? If we can confirm that that is required, i'd say go for it (just wait for confirmation first though ;) )
Just FYI: I've downloaded HD versions of Friends episodes (the whole 10 seasons) to a total of 635GB. Its out there and many other 90's shows are available in that format too if they want. It might not be optimized, but it is there. If they can do it for the original Star Wars trilogy and Star Trek The Next Generation series, I think its possible for pretty much any modern show.

Not that I really mind, because the quality is not high by any means, but I have no doubt Netflix will have the HD version come January.

So if we need to move OnePlus or get a device there ourselves, we can do that as well.

We may never know for sure, but I would guess that there is a cost that OnePlus does not want to pay.

The large HD screen is a major selling point of the phone and you can't even watch HD content on it. Never Settle.

Send in yours and see if that will take care of it.

I highly doubt it has to do with them physically having a device.

It shouldn't be down to the consumer do this for One+, I would guess it's all part of bringing a product to market and making sure it performs by gaining the relevant licences. We are not on about some obscure media services here, pretty much every one I know has either Netflix or Amazon. There are also numerous other streaming services that apparently use this certification as well.

Manufacturers have to get their devices certified, and you can be sure Samsung have done what is necessary to do so! For whatever reason OnePlus has not.

I don't think that's quite how it works, and even if it was I'm more than sure OP would be able to supply one.... It seems OEMs can enquire here about it: https://support.google.com/widevine/troubleshooter/6027072 although without doubt they're well aware of the process and why it's not been done

We should make a change.org or something, because this is stupid. The solution is easy but they dont want to implement in the device...So annoying, Oneplus.

Well why not giving small hints to all the big review sites out there? Just ask them for investigation or give them a hint ?

Maybe a change.org petition to get an answer from OP as they have done for the Treble project ?

We have the same problem for the NFC payments as OP support only an old secure SIM card protocol

Something that bothers me: Seems like this problem isn't new at all, because there is no HD on older OnePlus devices, too. I did a (very) quick research and I can't find a single article from any mobile-news-website about this...

This thread keeps getting bigger and bigger (slowly) - but it seems like the whole topic doesn't get attention (from media and OnePlus) at all.

I would prefer some media pressure first. Maybe many OP5T users still don't know about this - potential candidates to sign a petition :). I didn't even notice the SD quality by myself, until I read about it right here.
