"A company spokesperson says that a future update for the 5T will enable Widevine Level 1, but did not elaborate on why it was omitted from the start.

    Yeah,why?
Google does not assess license fees for the Widevine product.

Also neither face or finger print recognition work on mine. No issues raised in reviews. Maybe my phone is defective!

    @loco-cork

I really would like to know what happend after OP has been asked for an statement... (Can contain some sarcasm...)
"Why didn't we implement it? ... Ah we didn't thought about someone's going to test it... What? We didn't care?... Ah okay ... Tell them we put this into our schedule! "
    Sorry for sarcasm!

Okay OnePlus show us what you are famous for! Good Softwaresupport? Let's do this!

Except this has been an issue with OnePlus before the 5T. For whatever reason OnePlus likes to #HYPE the big HD screen but where you would get themost benefit from it (HD streaming) it falls flat on its face.

So take it with a grain of salt that OnePlus will fix it as this has been an issue with the OnePlus 5 and apparently the 3 and 3T previously and those were never updated/fixed.

I ordered this phone as a Christmas gift for my wife. I may need to figure out if I need to cancel the order now. This is ridiculous. Glad I saw the article on the Verge. At least I have some heads up time. Supposed to ship in 10 days.

And this is why we are doomed. Plenty of things to worry about and people are more concerned with their device not supporting HD on netflix. [e]1f631[/e]

OnePlus do not care - there is already several petitions on change.org for other things but nobody from the company are willing to step up and tell the truth

It does matter, i watch YouTube on my phone always on 1080p. If i couldn't watch 1080p sure i'd brag about it everywhere. OP is growing, and they need to start fixing their sh#£.

Dumb. 8k video on a 1k screen? Download a ton of data just to throw away 7 out of every 8 pixels???

8k on 1080p for max pleasure...
    Explain me this...
If your screen is unable to go beyond FHD, what's the use of viewing 4k or 8k videos???

YouTube is fine and isn't one of the web providers affected by this? If you're switching video quality it's because you're on manual mode. Please know what you're talking about before blaming this on a whole another problem. There's enough problems as it is with this then to also have to deal with people spreading misinformation.

Simply go to youtube options while playing video and choose auto. The moment you manually select any specific video quality you've switched yourself to manual. The more you know, thanks.
