[IMPORTANT] OnePlus 5T does not support HD viewing for Netflix, Google Play Movies, etc

its not about watching in under 20 inch screen, if the hardware supports it and customers pay for HD to Netflix and Prime or any other service provider, they should be able to watch in full quality. Also not everyone has time to sit around TV and Computers to watch all those episodes, many prefer watching in their handsets on the go. So they need to get justified for the price they pay to Netflix. Also 5T has got a nice gorgeous display why not enjoy HD content on it if it can be enabled via a software update.

There is no official statement given by any OnePlus officials but there is another article stating that spokesperson said it's coming to OP5 & OP5T. There is no official info about who is the spokesperson and when did he say.

".. [/] soon after users started to complain about the issue -- OnePlus did acknowledge the problem and has now promised to bring Widevine Level 1 support, not only to OnePlus 5T but also to OnePlus 5 in the future update [/] .."

i don't believe this is true, no one of those news mention exactly who said that, when and where.

First, a big thanks to @whatthefunk for noticing this and creating this thread.

Second, I really hope OnePlus says something about this here in the forums. They already did it about the last problems with the phones, so I think it's only fair that we get an official statement from them.

Not only about how they're going to address it and about what phones will get the problem fixed.

It amazes me that Oneplus acknowledged that it only supports Level 3 in the AMA and this is only coming to light now. About time as it really is something that should be supported on a flagship phone!

The Quality is more than good. On a smalle screen (OP5) it dos not matter. So there is no problem.

Honestly, the difference between 480p and 1080p is very big, even on a 5.5inch screen. Test it on a good quality Youtube video (because on YT it does work): switch between 480p and 1080p (or even 720p) and wait a couple seconds after switching to give it time to switch. The difference is huge.

Do we have an official statement from the company, preferably with a timeline?, if they don't address this soon I am just going to send back to sender when they go for delivery...

No, we don't. Just various articles quoting 'company representative'. No timeline either.

The list of deficiencies grow longer by the day. But hey its the best value phone of 2017, well that's what they say on YouTube and that's if all you want is the basic of basics.
    Yes what a:tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy: shame.....

yep, they (well Adam) talked about the certification (L3) on the AMA. No OnePlus device can do netflix HD, not even 720p as of now.

But hey, it's "half" the price of a flagship

A flagship that does Netflix HD
    Video Output.
    Follows USB standards
    Gives water resistance
    Double the resolution

Not that you HAVE to have those features, but... it's like people compare only what they want, and not what it actually is.

Wow, even though I haven't noticed it until now (as I simply didn't watch any video on the device yet), this is one of the more embarrassing issues. But then again, it's not even an "issue", but a lack of a feature that should definitely be there in a 560 Euro phone.
