I'm testing the scanners for a while now, I prefer the back fingerprint scanner more then in-display fingerprint scanner.

    what do you prefer?

    Quick note: it's not in-display, it's under-display!
I have no preference as long as it's on the front of the phone. I don't like having to pick it up to unlock it.

RIP their marketing. Yea... that's incorrect. The fingerprint sensor is literally underneath the display. I wonder if I can get them to fix that:mad:

when your finger is dirty (f.e. after eating something with your hands), the on-screen fingerprint scanner doesn't recognize your finger while the hardware one on the back does

I'll take the fingerprint scanner on the front any day over the back. I think the in-display fp scanner will keep improving with updates. 9.0.6 already made mine work faster. I love the in-display fp scanner. Everyone I show it too is blown away and has to try it. Is it as fast as the normal fp scanner? No. Is it that much slower to where it's a problem? No. There are some times where I have to try a couple times but most of the time it works on the first try, especially with my right thumb. I enrolled my right thumb twice.

Okay, so here's the deal recently received my 6t and I'm absolutely loving it. However concerning the onscreen -display finger print sensor got a couple of issues. 1. A friend of mine tried unlocking the phone with his finger and it WORKED. How is this possible. 2. Lastpass works, but now & again it requires my master PW why? Appreciate this isn't the correct forum to be posting my concerns but eh we're all one family in the oneplus community. Any tips & tricks greatfully accepted.

I think it's in the right place, the feature is cool, but in mine option technical not the best solution for a scanner. We have to deal with security in 2019...

So, I used the LG G6 before the OP6T and I have to say that the front facing, under-display fingerprint sensor did require some getting adjusted to. Now that I am adjusted to it, I think I do prefer the under-display FP sensor.
    Pros and cons:
    - No extra hole in the case on the back
    - If FP does not immediately work, face recognition is there to help.
    - Don't need need to find FP sensor in the back for purchases, passwords, etc. Though it is placed in a nice resting position (on the back), sometimes you don't hold a phone in that position at all times. For the bottom under-display FP, the thumb is already there.
    - Don't need to register as many FPs, I only have my left thumb, right thumb, and right pointer finger. It allows me to add my girlfriend's FPs or anyone else if needed.
    - Pocket detection may prevent sensor to be activated.
    - Can't actively scan FP if taking out of pocket. With the back FP sensor, I could easily find the sensor and it would unlock as I raise my phone. I'm sure the this, it would require some adjusting to as well, but it's also place in a position where you would have to hold your phone loosely to unlock and pull phone out of pocket.
BIGGEST CON FOR ME: Fingerprint Gestures. I miss it so much. I configured my Nexus 5X to pull down notifications tab and quick settings and be able to swipe up to hide. I also had it go back for swiping left and recents menu for swiping right.

Verdict: Both are fierce competitors. I like both. There's the difference between physical sensor that you can touch and a sensor that'd less physical and more optical (if that makes sense), it's based on preference. I believe that in-display and under-display fingerprint sensors will be the future as more buttons get eliminated, so I can rest on enjoying and bragging about the under-display fingerprint sensor.
