In Search Of the Perfect Size

Many of our new forum members have been discussing the sheer size of the OnePlus One. We admit it – a 5.5’’ screen does sound big, but it actually isn’t. Let us explain.

We created the One using a holistic approach, meaning that every component of the device was chosen with the other components in mind, taking into consideration the effect it would have had on the device as a whole. The screen was no exception. In this case, a screen too small would not be able to captivate the user and maximize the smartphone experience.

Not long ago, we posted a picture of Sony Xperia Z1, asking our forum members what we had hidden underneath it. As you might know, the Xperia Z1 was one of Sony’s flagship devices whose screen measures at an a even 5’’. People liked it and didn’t mind the size at all . There is not many things that could be concealed under a 5’’ mobile phone, but we still managed to put our very own 5.5’’ 2014 Flagship Killer, OnePlus One, right there.

    Just watch the following video.

It’s all a matter of perception and, in the same line, what actually matters is how it feels in your hand. Thanks to the tapered edges and the concave back the OnePlus One will mold effortlessly into your hand, making your day-to-day smartphone experience even more pleasant than with other similarly-sized devices.

What we wanted was a brilliant, high gamut screen big enough to be totally immersed in, while at the same time creating a device handy enough to be able to simplify your daily life. This could only be done by only including functions into the device that were truly needed by smartphone users from all over the world, and at the same time skimming it from excessive and useless features (such as a heart rate monitor) that would only add unnecessary size to our beautiful creation.

This pretty much sums up the result of the endless testing we went through in deciding the size of the OnePlus One screen and the device itself. Soon, we will release our first batch, and you’ll be able to experience the One’s ergonomics by yourself.
