    Hey everyone,

The instant translation feature is now available in the open beta version of OnePlus 7 and 7T series. We first hinted about this feature during the OnePlus 7T Series launch and now we'd like to recruit some volunteers to test the feature.

How do I join the test?
    1. Requirement: OnePlus 7/7 Pro/7T/7T Pro
    2. Update to OxygenOS Open Beta 11 for the OnePlus 7 Pro and 7 or
    3. Update to Oxygen OS Open Beta 2 for the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro
If you are interested in joining, please fill out the survey. Survey link is here.

Please mention your email and forum ID in it. We will contact you and add you to a Slack group after selection. You are free to submit your suggestions and doubts about instant translation in that group. We may arrange a video call interview with you for further information about the feature.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated. We're looking forward to improving the instant translation feature with you!

    Introducing instant translation
Instant translation can provide real-time subtitles for you alone or both parties during the video call. For example, I speak English, and my Indian friend Abdul speaks Hindi. Instant translation can be used to discuss our work. The language barrier no longer exists thanks to live subtitles.

Currently, it supports 5 languages: English, French, German, Hindi and Chinese. After enabling it, you can use WhatsApp or Facebook messenger to have a productive video call with your foreign friends or anyone you may like to interact with.

    How to use it:

First step: Enable it in Settings - Utilities - OnePlus Laboratory - Instant translation

Second step: Set your language and the other party’s language, then make a video call from WhatsApp or Facebook messenger. After enabling it for the first time, you can also find it in the quick setting drawer.

Here is a video for reference:

We’d also like to express our gratitude to the users from the open ears and closed beta. From the discussion, we could sum up these top three essential points: translation speed, translation accuracy and user privacy, which we will involve into our development process. This feedback really helps us improve.

Sounds cool. I just hope it doesn't turn into the same promise Google gave us with their pixel buds.

    But I'm feeling optimistic.

I've tried it already (as you can see from the video :D) and I was pleasantly surprised.

Fun fact: Dawei (David in Chinese) can also be translated into "Big Appetite". But the translation worked correctly and showed "David".

Awesome news, @Gary C. - hopefully one day you'll add Portuguese to that list. ;)

But even before then, I can see this being quite useful to do business, to connect to others and, when the current situation is behind us, whenever people take some vacations in foreign countries. Also: Thank you for requesting members to test/try it, hopefully the selected ones can help it improve quickly. Great work.

Well, @dsmonteiro Portuguese sounds like Chinese to me. So yeah, there's that. :D
