I was thinking the removable back is for sim and sd card. Like the Moto G, the back cover is removable but the battery isn't.

I was also imagining during shower that it would be cool if you could put another back cover that has a battery inside. That way for people who want a larger battery but willing to give up some weight and thickness can use something like that.

Yep that could be very nice if this is true, and that could also allows them to make smart-covers, if there is a kind of connector inside to provide energy to the cover :)

From Wikipedia, An original design manufacturer (ODM) is a company which designs and manufactures a product which is specified and eventually branded by another firm for sale. Such companies allow the brand firm to produce (either as a supplement or solely) without having to engage in the organization or running of a factory.

So high changes oneplus one's design is from OPPO, Oneplus just made change request to differentiate oneplus one from find 7.

I believe OnePlus told Oppo what they wanted, and Oppo designed it based on what OnePlus wanted, either way, none of us really knows how it happened.

Will be interesting to compare the leak specs of find 7, check the physical dimension against Sony Z1, to see if it's really taller. If so, the oneplus one dimension will be close to find 7. It make sense as oneplus would avoid having huge capital investment in their first phone.

    Oppo find 7 is 152.6mm x 75mm x 9.2mm, Sony Z1 is 144mm x 74mm x 8.5 mm.

8mm taller to squeeze a 5.5 inch screen, and perhaps front facing stereo speakers?

the original design manufacturer is the one who manufacturers(fabricates or makes) the original design given to them.

basically 1+ tells oppo what to make and they make it. if 1+ wants to make the 1+1 look like the find 7 thats their choice.

When I hear "highly customizable hardware" I think of Google's project Ara. Clearly this is not the case for the OnePlus, so I am intrigued as well to see how this pans out. Camera announcement in 2 days!

Oppo apparently makes two versions of the Find 7, a 5.5 "screen with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels and also a version with a full HD screen of 1920x1080 pixels.
