    Hey All,

The past few months of lockdown have been both rewarding and taxing in different ways for everyone around the world. Where, on one hand, we have gotten to spend the majority of the year at home with our families, working from home, on the other hand, it has impacted our health and digital cognizance to an extent. Our phones and devices have increasingly become an extension of ourselves - we check in on them the moment we wake up, stay in their loop the entire day and go to sleep staring at these screens.

Taking a moment to address that, the ambassadors at Student Ambassador Program wanted to shed some more light on how we at OnePlus are working towards a better OS experience which would intrinsically work towards reducing our digital footprint and optimise it further. To get a deeper insight into the changes made to increase digital well-being starting right from the design level to newly introduced features, we had the brilliant opportunity to interview Sam Twist, a Senior Product Manager at OnePlus, working on the new OxygenOS 11.

Starting with his own experience of always being surrounded by technology, he emphasised the huge role of his team's features, such as Zen Mode, in maintaining a healthy relationship with his devices. He is also extremely excited about the new features on OxygenOS 11, like the Parsons AOD feature that they designed with a specific focus on the user's digital well-being. Delving deeper into the design thinking process, he also elaborated on the great attention their team pays to consumer needs through extensive testing of new features and how the team's agility helps them entirely change their approach if the need so arises. Talking to him made us realise the passion and care the OnePlus Product Team puts into crafting new and better changes that make the user experience that much more burdenless than something that weighs you down and makes you less productive. It was amazing to see that these ideas aren't just platitudes but something that really matters for the organisation.

Honestly, it also encouraged some of us who previously hadn't to finally try out the Zen mode for ourselves! This experience was truly transformative in many ways, and we indeed look forward to having more such interactions and gaining deeper insights into what goes on behind the screens!

Great work @Sam T. Just wanted to say, people are always sceptical to changes. They dont appreciate something that they need untill they have it and then it hits their mind that oh... I needed that and i didnt knew. I was in Online OEF this time and i have been seeing this OOS11 changes since it was behind curtains and the one thing i said when asked was feedback was, people might be against it at first. They might say its a copy. But after using it i personally felt and others will feel it too that its just more of an visual and accessibility change. The key essence of OOS is still their. Maybe not close to stalk android visually but usability is what matters the most

Thanks to SAP for bringing this.

Indeed, it was quite a fruitful discussion. Loved the experience of my first OEF with Sam and our community folks.

I like the refreshed look but not a fan of the whole UI being pushed down to half of the screen. I would've liked it if it was consistent across all the android apps. Other non-oneplus apps still use full screen UI, so you still have to stretch your hands to reach on top.

That's something which will get better with time. One handed use on OnePlus apps has been a really good addition.

That is not Oneplus's or any other smartphone manufacturer's fault. Its the app developers who decide how a certain app should look

There have been lots of good updates for oxygen os 11 but they have let down the existing users of oneplus, some the features are -
    1. By not providing their own apps like Phone, Contacts and messaging.
    2. While recording the call, the other end person can hear that call recording is on.
    3. In earphone mode OnePlus have deactivated the speak caller ID feature.
    4. For facelock they have removed the earlier assestive lighting technique.
    5. OnePlus shelf Feature is a major missing.
    6. With the change in phone application answering of calls is different compared to earlier OnePlus phones.

As a loyal OnePlus fan, its a humble request to OnePlus team to bring back these features to OnePlus 8T also.

It is OnePlus's fault. The app developers will obviously choose a general design language which has been adopted by Google and most Android smartphone manufacturers and that is what OnePlus too should've followed. I don't mind the new half screen interface but it's only limited to OnePlus apps which makes it look inconsistent and one-handed implementation half baked.
