Is 128 GB storage sufficient on OnePlus 8 Pro?

    Hello Everyone.
I am planning to buy OnePlus 8 Pro, as soon as it is available in India. My current device is Nokia 6 (Nokia's first Android Phone, Using from almost 3 years) with 32 GB of storage. So, this will be a huge upgrade for me in terms of speed, performance and everything else tbh.

My current residence being an hour away from the foot of himalayas, there are plenty of travel places around me. The main reason for buying this OnePlus 8 Pro is to shoot and upload travel content on YouTube. As there is no expandable storage on this phone, I couldn't decide which variant to buy.

I have seen in one website review that, Around 30 seconds of video at 4K 60fps will use around 500MB of space and 1080p at 60fps is 140MB. So, If I shoot for 60 mins, it'll be 58.59 GB and 16.4 GB respectively.

I need some suggestions on following queries.
    1. Can anyone suggest me which variant to take with detailed explanation please?
    2. If I shoot Timelapse for, say, 10 hours, How much storage will it take?
    3. Is there anyway to expand storage by attaching OTG Pendrive for temporary/emergency usage?

Hope this will be helpful for others too!

As long as you don't have a craving for porn and want to download it 128gb of storage is fine for 99.9% of people .

If you can afford the highest capacity variant , go for it !
You can never have too much storage.

There's too many variables to just estimate that.

OTG to USB Yes. You will be able to shift your content to a USB Pen Drive. But doubt there is a way to directly save Camera output (Pics and Video) to the USB Drive.

Remember to format your USB drive accordingly for huge file sizes.

It's difficult add another ₹5,000 to the budget. But I'm afraid I may not take long Timelapse shots in 128 GB one. So, there is this dilemma.
Maybe for 1080p and standard settings, Do you have idea how much storage Timelapse takes on average?

Okay, so you have a lot of doubts, first of all even if you take 256gb storage device and shool 4k videos the storage won't last longer. My advice, take a 128gb variant and store the heavy videos on your desktop/laptop or harddisk. Don't sweat much about the storage 128gb is enough and what will you even do with the 4k video quality...every social media compresses the video before posting except if you are a youtuber.
1080p at 60fps is perfect else 1080 is perfect too. So go for 128gb.

Do you have any rough idea how much storage will it take for 30 sec shots in 1080p and 4K @ 30fps?

You have searched correctly on the internet as per your post.
But really you don't really need to worry if you purchase 128gb. You have had 32gb for 3 years now...128 is more than enough.

Why am I not getting notifications for the tag

If you are planning to shoot videos then, it's always better to have as much as storage possible. But as you don't want to spend extra 5k, you can plan your shoot. I shoot a lot of videos (Preferably 1080p) for youtube and I transfer them to PC within 1-2 days so that I don't have to see a "low on storage" notification while doing the job.
As @Batman360 said, prefer shooting 1080 60fps where ever possible as it will reduce the file size easily by half or sometimes more than that of a 4k 60fps.

    Coz....Post edit...tag added later.

Nope....never taken one on a phone.
Yeah...but you're also getting double the storage and additional RAM.
So I'd suggest you wait for some time , get the additional money and then go for the 256G version.

You're already spending 50k+ on a phone....so don't want that regret of just getting a 128G model and then running out of space some day when you need it. ;)

But.....If you think you can make do with transferring to USB OTG , then I'd say save the 5k.

I agree with @Batman360 I think 128 should be plenty, just make sure to offload any really big files and you'll be fine
