    We are thrilled to have another opportunity to speak with you guys. It's been a while since our last AMA, and a lot of exciting things happened in this week. We launched our OnePlus 6 and first bullets wireless, the global Pop-up events are on the horizon. Before you get your OnePlus 6 and bullets wireless, ask us anything about it!

    Since our components no longer require the entire width of a top bezel, we focused our efforts on maximizing the amount of screen real estate. It’s easy to get caught up in a debate on aesthetics, but to us this decision was simply about pursuing optimal phone design and giving users as much screen as possible .

    Hey, thanks for coming out to support us on Wednesday!

    Our delta between GBP and INR price is around 20% and not 25%. This difference exists because the cost of doing business in different regions differ. You can verify this by studying any company with a global sales network. With IP certification, water ingress is generally not covered by warranty. Again, you can verify this by studying other brands.

    Our approach is to build a phone with water resistance so that you don't have to worry about splashes or weather in daily use. Let me know if this makes sense.

    We changed the design on Alert Slider not only because DND is changing but it is the what we hear from our users. We will keep an eye on feedback for this change on the OP6, and see about adding to the 5/5T

    Seeing the industrial design of the OnePlus 6 for the first time, gave me a similar sensation to when @Pete first showed me the industrial design prototype of original OnePlus One. It's not about any specific detail. I was rather taken aback by the first impression, my heart skipping faster for a split second.

    We had this for the OnePlus X but didn't see much usage to be honest. Both downloaded and streamed music has so much better fidelity. In addition, with online radio, I'm quite curious about why you'd be looking for this?

    We limit the amount of SKUs to optimize inventory handling. The more variants, the more complicated the back end operations become. We were confident that Mirror Black would be popular in 64GB.

    Regarding water resistance, it's resistant to scenarios you encounter in your daily life, such as rain or if you drop it in the sink. It's not designed for you to submerge it on purpose for underwater use. In fact, I wouldn't recommend that for any phone. Even phones certified with IP68 don't have warranties that cover your water damage.

    We don't have any plans to change our strategy at this moment. We also understand that software updates are extremely important to our community, and are always looking for ways to improve this. Hope you've seen some positive change with the OnePlus 6 being one of the world's first phones with the Android P Developer Preview.

    I'll have to correct you here.

    ... and I've said this before. Project Treble is great, and will undoubtedly help with updates.

    But don't forget that most of our work behind a software update is involving quality testing and quality control. That takes a ton of time and manpower.

    Hypothetically:
    Without Treble, a smartphone brand can still choose to update their phones
    Even with Treble, they can choose to not update

    It has way more to do with which brand you pick than whether a specific device has Treble support.

    I don't know how other companies handle it, but I remember having similar conversations with our community when we just released the 3T, and people were asking us why we could fit a higher capacity battery within the same device size compared to the OnePlus 3.

    We are extremely rigorous about quality and tolerances, especially around battery. We run very long test cycles on new battery densities, and will never aim to be industry leading in how dense our batteries are. For us personally, that risk reward equation doesn't make sense.

    The secondary camera is used exclusively for depth of field. We are confident in the photographic experience of the OnePlus 6's main sensor, which has a 19% larger sensor, larger pixels and OIS.

    This isn't correct.

    Listening to feedback does not mean designing by committee, or even worse, hive mind.

    Instead, you need to be able to figure out what people mean with what they say. That's a basic skill that product managers need to possess.

    Do you remember with the OnePlus One, where everyone told us to absolutely not go with a 5.5" display? What they really meant is that they wanted a phone that felt good in the hand. We managed to deliver this in a 5.5" display by shaving the bezels, adding our Horizon Line, as well as adding our signature curvature to the back. After we started shipping the OnePlus One, people soon realized that it felt amazing in the hands.

    With the OnePlus 6, we've maximized the screen without compromising size or functionality. This is the best product decision, and early feedback from real people who've seen or used the device has been amazing. I'm sure you'll understand what I mean if you get the chance to experience the 6 in person.

    We just have to agree to disagree on what's better, our proprietary solution, or USB PD.

    As for USB 2.0 - for the majority of our users, it's extremely rare for them to use USB for file transfers in an age of WiFi and 4G.

    As the main sensor is the camera that handles most the photography, only the main camera has OIS and EIS. OIS is used in slow motion recording.

    The .magnetic play/pause feature of the OnePlus Bullets Wireless is only compatible with the OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 6. But all other features are supported on the OnePlus 3 including Google Assistant.

    We are confident in our video stabilization for the OnePlus 6. We use EIS for video capture at 30 fps. For 60 fps, OIS is used.

    The Bullets Wireless will remember 8 devices. But the Bullets Wireless can only be used in one device at the same time for saving its battery. Besides, it's compatible with all phones. But the magnetic resume feature and magnetic call features are only available on 5 and above.

    The size of our h/w barely changed. So it is something about how we tap or control the device on the edge. And also that's the reason why we adjusted the "full-screen gesture" for times, to make it work not from the very bottom of the screen but a little bit centerer. Hope you enjoy it~

    We upgrade our speaker hardware so that a better low frequency performance can be expected comparing with 5T, and we still ketp the 3.5mm headphone jack to ensure better sound effect transmission.

    Is there a chance that we could see OnePlus reverting the new 2 devices a year plan to once a year? I understand that hardware advancement is as important as software advancement, especially from a business and enthusiast point of view, but for existing customers, it's even more important that current devices are supported longer.
    Yes, this is made easier by Google's own Project Treble, but as it stands now, all OnePlus devices will receive software updates for up to 2 years(and only 1.5 in the case of the T series), but when there are more devices to take care of, some devices, often older ones, in this case, the 3/3T, do not receive software updates for a considerable period, the last (global) stable update being released back in 2017.
    These devices are more than capable to handle Android P, if not more, with Treble making it easier for updating newer devices, shouldn't it be possible to spend some resources on updating the older devices as well?
    Edit: With an extra emphasis on security updates at the very least.
    Are there any plans to improve this? Thanks in advance :)

    First up, before getting to my questions, Congratulations on making another set of great products in OnePlus 6 and Bullets Wireless.

    So here are my questions,

    Can you please explain a bit about the idea behind OnePlus 6's rear camera system using two camera lenses of the same focal length? How does it work to make the camera experience better?

    Does the OnePlus 6 support for Widevine L1, which is necessary to enable HD streaming in services like Netflix?

    Will a portrait mode feature be added to the OnePlus 6's front Camera via a Software updates?

    From the reviews of the OnePlus 6 I've read and seen, I found that the most awaited alert slider changes (or as some call it, FIX) has arrived. Will this trickle down to OnePlus 5/5T and 3/3T in future updates?

    With the OnePlus 6 being among the first few devices to get a taste of Android P in beta form, can we expect it to be getting the stable release around the same time as the Google's own Pixel phones?

    Extremely happy to finally see a pair of Bluetooth earbuds using USB-C for charging, thanks for that !! I noticed that it says that the Bullets Wireless can 'Fast Charge', Does that mean we can use any USB-C cable to fast change the buds? No need for proprietary cable like we need for Dash Charging?

    Will there be a OnePlus 6T? *wink wink*

    Why does OnePlus 6 not support wireless charging despite having a glass back? Yes of course dash charge is awesome, but wireless charge support would have been the perfect complement to it.

    Why is OnePlus still sticking to USB C 2.0 and not moving ahead to USB 3 or 3.1?

    Is it possible to make a power bank with support for dash charging? Any plans?

    When can we expect Open beta builds of OOS for OnePlus 6 to start?

    Will OnePlus 3/3T be getting the Android 8.1 update?

    Would you consider working with Snapchat to optimize the app for the OP6?

    The Android version of Snapchat takes a screengrab of the viewfinder, rather than use actual image data like on the iPhone and Pixel. My Pixel friends always get compliments and questions; 'What phone are you using?', so I feel like it would be a good move on OnePlus' part.

    Here's a question - I tried the phones at the launch and am excited to be getting the bullets. But I am very concerned about the fingerprint magnet glass back. Why is the matte black version not available at the base price? You're already charging Brits 25% more than Indians (34999 rupees is £380), and I don't want to pay another £50!

    Also, why no IP certification? Can you be honest about this. Are you saving money not getting a certification, or can the phone not be used near water? Without the certification any water ingress would not be covered by warranty, even if I only dropped it in the bath.
