    Hi everyone,

We're sure many of you have enabled "Pick up to show" under Ambient display on your phone and we'd love to know how is your experience with that feature.

We understand the way how users use their phones varies greatly, picking up their devices at different angles, speed, and height. These factors may affect this feature's performance. Hence, the User Experience Project.

We want to know how this feature works for you specifically. This project aims to provide a more responsive "Pick up to show" by incorporating machine learning into the Open Beta builds for the OnePlus 7/7 Pro and, in turn, to understand our users better. Your participation gives us an insight into usage patterns that help in creating a more adaptable Ambient display solution.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind that your opinion matters to OnePlus and we're looking forward to improving OnePlus products and OxygenOS together with you!

    Participation & Feedback
    1. Activate the machine learning for "Pick up to show"
      • Go to Settings > Display > Ambient Display > turn on "Pick up your phone to show";
      • Open the dial pad, input *#2498# and machine learning will be automatically set up. No need to do anything else.

    2. We've streamlined the feedback process as well.
When you raise the device to wake the screen, your device will receive a notification asking if the wake-up gesture met your expectations. You may choose to tap on "yes", "no" or "unknown" to rate the experience, which contributes to training the machine learning model.

    3. Quit the scheme
If you want to drop out of the project and disable the machine learning, simply open the dial pad and input *#2499# and it's done.

    FAQs
    1. Will my data be recorded after enabling the machine learning?
During the period when machine learning is turned on, OnePlus will only collect your feedback data of "yes", "no" and "unknown" for Pick up to show. It is anonymously collected and shall be used for the sole purpose of feature improvement.
    2. Will enabling machine learning lead to annoying pop-up notifications?
We take the frequency of pop-up notifications under consideration. So you will receive the notification at a certain probability. If you find them annoying, you can turn them off at any time by typing in "*#2499#" on the dial pad.
    3. How can I report other issues?
Please feel free to leave your suggestions and feedback in the comments below or via the Community app. Your voice matters!

As always, thanks for your support and feedback! OnePlus is dedicated to building better products together with our community!

Why would it do that? The fingerprint would not be lit up on AOD as it is on Ambient display...

Well,it depends. For 6 and 6 below there is not an indisplay FPS but for 6t and above it is there. Why do you think they will remove the FPS from AOD if they roll it out? They used the FPS for functionality not for a showpiece.

They don't need to remove the sensor, just not have it light up when AOD is on, only when you pick up the phone it would light up

Never bring AOD on OnePlus please, I am pretty much satisfied with ambient display on picking it up. It's very reactive most of the time, and fast too. I think it's smarter and energy efficient. Besides if AOD is to be brought on OnePlus, they should make it optional.
