Are you really running it as a 'ROM'?
Or just from terminal and VNC to get the interface?

There is a mobile version, I've done it before, you get an app from the playstore, download the iso for kali linux and it runs it like a virtual machine with full functionality.
EDIT: The app is called Linux Deploy

Virtual machine means there is a 'host'
So there will be usage for the android system and apps, and also for the virtual machine.

Would make the performance weaker, and the battery usage higher.
Would really love the idea of 'Ubuntu for Android' or some modified 'Ubuntu Touch'

Na, I'm running it in a chroot on my old lg motion though. Also, a live, persistent, iso on a 64gb flash drive, and a 70gb partition on my laptop ssd. Might install it on my one, haven't found a reason yet though. The motion works fine as a hardware backtrack door.

In it creates another mount point in the system, and starts its own init script, its like using android as a bootloader, nothing like a virtual machine. Way more efficient
USB otg with an external WiFi card, and you can inject raw packets. Also there's way more to do than just cracking routers with Kali. Its most useful on portable devices after your in the system, as a hardware "backdoor".
