Running on tar road is usually not advisable becoz the reaction force from the ground after you land, will hurt the knees. One must be very careful to have a good landing technique, stride strategy and of course a good pair of shoes.

vapor clothing, as they call it, comes under the dry-fit. Nike, Puma etc have a wide range of clothing on this front.

Cycling or running, or brisk walking or any form of fitness each day - good! :)

Yes, wanted this to be a basic starter thread. Will definitely have one more with advanced things like nutrition, injuries and recovery strategies. People tend to get scared with the mention of injuries, upfront :p

    good one mate!

    I use Garmin Vivoactive Music 3 ... also have a Mi Band 5 :D

yes, more than the speed, its how you enjoy the landscape. At the end of the run, you must feel "refreshed" than a "regret" :D

Brilliant thread and one that I certainly resonated with during lockdown. Having done lots of home HIIT workouts with weights, I was getting fitter and stronger, but I needed something to push me a bit further and reduce boredom.

I never really ran unless it was included in other sports, such as football or tennis. I wanted to run about 3 times a week so I started at the beginning of 2021.

    Jan 1st 2021
I started running, 2km I was out of breath and pretty much dead with a pace of 9:30/mi. I also had shoes that were too small and my toe nails started to go black.

*Gets new shoes, half size up from usual size.*

    Mid-Jan (3 runs a week)
I was able to run about 5km but not comfortably, with a pace between 8:45-9:30/mi.

End of Jan (2-3 runs a week)
Now able to run 5km comfortably and pushing up to 7-8km. Pace now 8:30/mi.

    Feb 2nd (2-3 runs)
8km-10km with a goal of reaching 10km consistently. Pace now 8:20-9:30/mi.

    Mid-Feb to Today (2-3 runs)
Ran my fastest (by coincidence, not target) 10km with a 6:56/mi pace. Also ran my first ever 12km and now consistently hitting 10km at an ave pace 7:50-8:15/mi.

My goals aren't to increase miles, I'm just running for fitness. I'm extending my miles as I feel myself fitter and capable of going for longer, but I'm also not trying to be the fastest I can be. Some days I'm really fast, others I'm not, but keeping up with it is key.

So my takeaways are that anyone can run, you just need to have the right mindset, be realistic and compare yourself to you and not others.

I wish i would've know this a year ago, when i started running. I'm an all or nothing kinda guy, i lift heavy or i don't lift, i run all out or i don't run. So i ran as fast and as long as i could, which, as you can imagine wasn't a succes. Now i run at my own comfortable pace for as long as i can, around 10km in an hour. Which is fine for allround fitness for me and it also means i don't have to walk around feeling like i got hit by a bus after my runs anymore. Anyway, great thread and valuable information here.

The clothes which are made from polyester fabric can be termed as dry fit as these clothes absorb sweat well and stay dry compared to cotton t-shirt
and coming to the topic of running, I don't run every day but I do play badminton everyday and I do run during the exercises. as you might know that badminton is a very demanding sport.
I do measure my steps and they come of to be around 20000 every day ! i still think that much for me consider my age. but what do you guys think?

I'd say that's a pretty good step count to get on a daily basis. Not a lot of people reach that number i think, at least not every day.

Great tips @CosmicPaladin I'm old school so I'm a semi jogging and speed walk-in. I stay hydrated, where the attire you've suggested. The only thing I wear New Balance. Drs orders my feet spread over the years. Dr orthopedic suggest a wide shoe, larger box so my toes aren't crushed. But beside that lets go!!! Pick your track!! I'm not much for the street. Traffic and potholes. . I'm ready.
