I guess you're right there, most of us have no idea, neither am I I'm afraid.

I think humans, and therefore society, interact based on trust.

Without that, nothing goes really. We'd all be in trenches defending what's ours all day.
What we are seeing in these times is that governments, companies and other institutions alike apparently can't be trusted, not with our money, nor our data or our wellbeing altogether.

That is a pretty big satanic datamining cookie to swallow.

Edit: my spellchecker is scaring me now...

As I'm in the market for a another smartphone (I plan to keep and likely will be buried with my OPO) , but when I look at Oneplus today, the first thing that comes to mind is that old saying, "Once burned, twice shy"

OK, I'll say it. OPPO needs to replace the top management in OnePlus, otherwise IMO their future looks bleak.

It's time for an early personnel house cleaning, NOW.

Yep, @Carl doesn't really care about his "friends"

He just dumps here whatever he wants needs to say for marketing or damage control reasons. Then gives one more reply in the thread, usually to correct something he deems necessary, then he's gone again.

Doing cofounder stuff, leaving the rest to die his personnel to finish.

If this is an industry practice than Carl should say it. He should also name other major companies doing it.

I did not get it yet u_u

@David Y. did ask for my address, tho, he got my office one :p

I still want to believe that data did not enter any OnePlus database besides the PM system in this forums...

but who knows, maybe they already had both my home and work address geolocated from way before ;)

    He did say that...

He did not mention any names though, that's the proble, he just makes statements.

But gives nothing to back them up.

Agreed. I was just talking about the thread.. no other company really attempts to connect with the users through a forum. Whether they actually listen to the opinions of the people on the forum is a different matter.
It's all about pacifying the existing users and getting them to spread the word about this official response.. about OnePlus being 'proactive' and 'transparent'about it. It's all a sham anyway.
But the truth is, you can't really hone your os if you don't have the data. Your can't run a virtual assistant, you can't provide context-appropriate services.. and it's all about smart-stuff these days.
It's like you could either be Apple, give the users anything and expect them to chew it, or be blamed for data mining.
Or, they could just outsource it to a specific data mining agency, and we'd never find it out. My point is, that it's not a big deal anymore. Google uses your data all the time.. and more than half the users would have no clue about the penis enlargement ads that'd fill their inbox after a session on pornhub.
Everything was fine before these websites reported it.. and now everyone is suddenly acting concerned. @cmitchellshaw was advocating privacy in his threads long before all this transpired, and look how many actually paid attention to him. Its being scandalized just cuz it's on the news now.

Not only that, google uses that data to actually make things better for me.

Suggestions about my interest, targeted ads, instant replies to emails, and train their awesome AI to then even better more my fav service, Google Photos.

Knowing when and how I ran my apps seems a bit overboard.

Plus, it's about the dishonesty, I never cared sending statistics to companies, heck, go on, it's not like they get any particular gain for know it's ME who does this or that, but damn... just TAKING it, that's a no go. And even less with OnePlus after all the lies they've had already...

Plus... seeing all the comments that are getting banned... it's obvious they are hiding stuff too. Which even triggers more alarms.

Heck, even more, in "my account" you can delete ALL data collected by google.

Disappointment that's what your becoming I'VE been here since my opo. Nothing would have changed if you weren't called out for this in the first place. In the past you could of been forgiven for being a start up but your not anymore id expect shit like this from crap eBay Chinese phones.

    Nope.

All of Carl's responses (Android Central and here) have been blurring two types of data collection (one legal with user approval and one basically sneaky and illegal) as simply 'analytics'. And so when he says the legal one with approval is standard industry practice... he's right... but he's also implying the second sneaky and illegal kind is also standard.

Except it isn't. If it were standard and legal then why promise to stop doing it?

If I were OnePlus I'd be pissed that the tech media is making me stop doing something that Apple, Samsung, and Pixel are still doing. Right? That's why I'm saying prove it. Name the other actors doing the same and getting away with it.

    Hi @Carl

I don't believe these were securely collected or transmitted. If that were the case, we wouldn't know what they are.

You have been irresponsible with our data (at best). We did not consent for you to collect these details, and it is unacceptable for you to store this data without our consent.

Where can I view and delete all the data you have collected on me?

because they still STOLE it, they are NOT regretting NOR disabling it, just making it a bit more "anonymous"
