Hi guys, I created this thread to share the best settings for the best android video player, at least according to me. Now that it manages graphic subtitles (IDX+SUB) I find it the most complete player available. VLC is also very good but is still in beta and sometime a little "buggy".

True is that with all the power available with OPO, I don't think that you don't need any specific setting to play any video file, but I was wondering which is the best setting to get also top quality images and battery life.

I tried "H/W+ decoder" and works very well, with subtitles and different files format, and so is for "S/W decoder", but I'm guessing that "H/W+" better takes advantage of the phone hardware.
With "H/W decoder" sometimes it does not play audio with the video.

I then tried to download custom codec for ARMv7 Neon custom codec (with DTS support) at this link: https://s3.amazonaws.com/1.7.31/custom_codec_temp/libffmpeg.neon.1.7.31.zip
(Full XDA thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/mx-player-custom-codec-dts-support-t2156254). You can then select the new codec under Settings 》Decoder 》Custom Codec.

The quality of the video was perfect before and it is perfect also with the custom codec, but maybe energy efficiency is improved? I guess, I would like to hear the opinion of some expert :)

What about color format? I use "32bit RGB", as "YUV" is labaled as experimental.

Please share your experience and opinions guys :) Thanks

If you do not say which problem and which ROM you had it's not very useful.

How do you get videos in Chrome to open in Mx Player? My experience was when I first installed Mx videos from Chrome opened in Mx, then they spontanteously would play in Chrome instead and I cannot get it to return to the previous behaviour. I

Have a try to encode MKV videos into MP4 formats so that you can play without any issue.

Since you heve upgraded to Lollipop, particularly CM OS 12, have you manage to use H/W+?

I cannot use it in any video since Lollipop came to my OnePlus One.

That is a relief for me, has mine was not working since Lollipop.
    But also confirms my fear.

I hope this gets fixed on next CM12OS OTA.

H/W+ is the best way to decode files, as it drains less battery (Snapdragon's DSP is one of the most efficient on the market) and the phone heats up less often.
But, most importantly, the playback is the smoothest.

MX player Pro got an update today, see it that helps. Being on Exodus I've not had an issue playing with videos of all kinds that I've had.

That update was to fix some H/W+ problems on Android 5.1.
I already tried it, but no go.

Since 5.0.2 update for Cyanogen, H/W+ does not work on the OnePlus One.

Since I flashed the new update (I flashed the major file) and left franco.kernel - so, I am using stock kernel now - I was able to use H/W+ again.

Did anyone else get it working again?
