My One is Deformed In The Inside Due To Overheating

    QuantumDot , Dec 8, 2014 :
So I have had my One since late July and from the day I got it, the phone heats up a LOT every time I play any 3D games or if the phone is in my pocket for a long time. At one point, an app read that my processor was at 163° Fahrenheit. I was sitting at my desk today and finally built up enough courage to open up the back (just to see what everything looked like), because I had always been scared that I would damage my phone opening it up. As soon as I got it open, I realized that the plastic where the processor is located had bumps and different textures. They look like they are the result of overheating. What do I do? Is it too late for a replacement? My battery could explode and injure me.

Keep in mind that this is the first time I ever opened the back.

Here are some photos I took:

Do we know what the design specifications are for a One while in operation and while charging

Because this is a potencial safety issue. If the phone overheats to the point of melting the plastic encasing it, chances are that the battery can blow up or catch fire pretty soon.

So its really not an answer that a user can answer on. You should ask OP support.

    That isn't a safety issue
it is a "feature" of the phone

Would be interesting if he could post what app he was running to reach that temp.

My top temp was near 60 only for gaming 3D apps and video 4k extended times.

Also did he OC or kept phone at performance settings for how long etc.

Unfortunately I had no control over the afterburners. There was a system error in my aircraft and I crashed.

Not on the inside but my OPO has a bulge on the outside - on the left edge to be exact. I can feel it when I move my finger along the left edge. It is just above the SIM slot. I can even see it.

Somebody please tell me if this bulge can be found on their device too. In any case this can hardly be "normal".

Hmmm, that's quite hot indeed but not extremely.

Have you perhaps flashed any experimental kernel?

If not, don't worry, the standard kernel has an overheat protection feature. It will automatically shut down your phone when it gets too hot.

You might want to open up the back and see of anything else is deformed. Also, post some photos.

Everything is still the way it was the day it shipped, except for all the apps I downloaded, and I just rooted my device a few weeks ago.

phone is fubar. hope you know what to do next time, i.e. stop whatever you were doing and cool phone asap, then address the problem immediately.

root cause of this problem can be many. hw defects, poor system design, rougue OS, or may be just your app(s).
